So, Doha. Anyone been?

I'll be heading out there next month to err, live.

Will require a vehicle of course. Needs to be able to cope with shopping mall car parks and the odd sand dune. I'm pleased to note that used prices out there are slightly lower than the equivalent in the UK, although I'm not sure what ramifications the heat has on vehicles long term.

A cosmetically shagged supercharged L322 appeals somewhat. Or possibly a Hemi Jeep Cherokee. Needs to be able to actually 'off road'. And naturally I'll be needing a bike too...
Buddy of mine out there has a new style RRS supercharged. Apparently it's a bit of a desolate place, good luck!

Doha?

As is Qatar?

You know they don't serve booze there and it's about 300 degrees C - which for someone of the Aberdonian persuasion is equivalent to the surface of the sun.

Send us a postcard...

From my sample of one friend who worked there for a couple of years, it's a sthole and as much spare time as possible was spent in Dubai (or Europe).

Still... mercilessly flogging something suitable around sand dunes should be pretty fun. V8 Landcruiser will be the option that doesn't break.

I guess there options for some motorcircuit fun in Bahrain and Dubai too.

When I visited Dubai we went on one of those day trips out to the dunes - every vehicle out there was a white Landcruiser. The one I was in performed faultlessly with 7 on board, aircon working and redlined over dunes for a couple of hours and thrashed there and back. No creaks, groans or wobbly handling. I looked over and it had 250,000 km on the clock.

Doha. I hope they're paying you a lot. An awful lot.

But a supercharged Range Rover, obviously.

There was a gloriously ropey Testarossa in the office car park today. No door cards, the black plastic grilles had been painted red (and were peeling) and it generally looked a bit sad. Still, it was in a different space before and after lunch so it obviously moves under its own steam.

pretty much the same story from my buddy. Not a vast amount to do, he spends about every moment of spare time drinking in the rugby club.

The natives spend as much time as they can outside of Qatar, says it all.
