We had a McLaren P1 cruise past us on the M40 this afternoon. Awesome looking things and seemed to be pretty loud just doing 80ish on the motorway.

I note that in the PH classifieds search there is a filter, either new or hitherto unnoticed by me, marked "aspiration". The choices are "normally aspirated", "turbo" and "supercharger". I feel the administrators have missed a trick by not including "forlorn", the selection of which would lead hapless users to a page of pant-wetting sailed-ship 60s and 70s Italian supercars.

If there were any justice in the world, someone somewhere would be making De Tomaso recreations, à la Eagle E-type or Singer Porsche, et al.
Spectacular, isn't she?
Back in 2007 I went to the last classic car show at Ali-Pali and there were two Mangustas for sale. Had the readies and really wanted to pull the trigger. After all, asking was around £35k. Did not fit at 6'4" and 110kgs. Story of my bloody life...

Morning Threadista, hope you are all well and had a good weekend?

I had a couple of hours to kill on the XstationBox yesterday and 'built' this driving

190bhp, 6spd gearbox, lsd etc etc and is now my new real-life 'Bucket List' addition! nerd

I'll have a go when you stop for coffee driving

Does anyone know how to get the last known registration plate from a chassis number? The DVLA are being their usual selves and won't give out the info. It's an E28, chassis number WBADC720000645582. Any ideas?

What do you care? It is missing a crucial "S" from the first three letters in the sequence... tongue out

Sorry, no idea how to help with your question...

Going to do the same with the Alpina. New suspension being fitted shortly and have ordered some motorised exhaust cutouts...
Did you get a diff sorted?

I've had a quote from Birds for a smidge short of £1600 (inc VAT and labour) for the Quaife jobbie. Sound about right?

After driving it in the damp for the first time on Saturday morning, it's crying out for a LSD.

£1600 is a lot for a diff, especially when it's an ATB. Surely there's a mix of existing BMW parts that'll fit, and for less - do you know what diff is currently fitted?

No idea, sorry.

What are the alternatives?

As in, do you know if it uses the same diff as, say, an E39 540i?

Still no idea. 15 mins googling hasn't helped.

I'd have to get underneath and see if the part no (hopefully) stamped on the outside of the diff matches the part no on the OEM site for the 540i...

If it is the same as a 540i then an E36 M3 Evo diff will fit with an E39 M5 cover, and a little bit of massaging.

I'm just going to throw this out there - I've been looking at electric/hybrid/range-extender cars online today, and find myself drawn somewhat towards a Vauxhall Ampera, and in particular this:

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to explain what a ridiculous idea it is, but in principle it appears to tick a few boxes.

Simple answer: utility. If I can do work and back on purely electric power, then ideal. Other stuff for fun, but for hacking back and forth it appears to tick all the boxes.
