That's an interesting point and could be one that ultimately backfires. I wonder if I am inadvertently heading down that path with my E34 too.
I'd suggest that if you need any M5 specific parts (particularly trim) you get them ordered now!As an E28 example, the battery box cover and tool kit panel for the boot are now NLA, and bloody impossible to get hold of second hand. Luckily I bought a new battery cover just before it went NLA. In fact, I may have bought the last one...
Anyway, I think I want a 993 instead. Or a 400GT.
Or a '68 Camaro.
Plus a Caterham and a V8 truck.
I also really fancy an S8 or A8 W12 at some point.

I never realised how strangled the cvh engine was by its hydraulic cam thingies until I had a ride in the RS1600i which had solid cam blahs. One of my biggest complaints about the cvh engined cars was their reluctance to rev. Once you've driven an RS1600i you realise the potential is there. If I were shopping for something period with the cvh then I know which car I'd want. For those that don't know the difference between this and the XR brigade - I'm no expert - I'm informed the majority of the front suspension is different. It has bars and braces in completely different locations. It also had a dual coil ignition with an early wasted spark setup.
I actually wanted an Escort RS1600i or RS Turbo, but my meagre finances (to say nothing of the unwillingness of insurers to take me on at cost effective rates) meant I stuck with the Fiesta.L100NYY said:
I had one identical to that when I was 17. (amongst 7 other cars in my first year of motoring).Nice low mileage example. W plate, carbed CVH, 4 speed and that standard 2 spoke steering wheel the size of a shirt button.
Thought it was a wheezy, coarse old thing even then.
Nice shot back to my youth with all of this xr/RS talk
Anyway, in an effort not to look like an extra from the village people when frequenting the track (aviators and a white sparco open face helmet), I'm sort of tempted by this;

Mrs rejn has gone off to bed ill tonight, so I'm having a bit of a reminisce - this was about as good as it got for me in 1999:
I kept it until 2006; had a chance to buy in back in around 2012 which I didn't take and I've regretted it ever since. Cracking little car.
My girlfriend at the time sulked all the way to Bell & Colvill to pick up the car in '99 - I think it was on that journey that I realised that she definitely wasn't the one - my relationship with the car lasted about 6 years longer than my relationship with her!!
Sufficed to say, but the currently ill Mrs rejn is a big fan of Elises!!

Looks nice, that. Plus you can now spend (more) time polishing your helmet.Anyway, in an effort not to look like an extra from the village people when frequenting the track (aviators and a white sparco open face helmet), I'm sort of tempted by this;

Saw one of these in that mustard yellow colour yesterday, it looked so good amongst the humdrum cars on a grey day in town. They're starting to look every inch the classic now aren't they?I kept it until 2006; had a chance to buy in back in around 2012 which I didn't take and I've regretted it ever since. I'll take the white Sparco helmet and ditch the sunglasses. Anyway, in an effort not to look like an extra from the village people when frequenting the track (aviators and a white sparco open face helmet), I'm sort of tempted by this;

I've found I don't like wearing sunglasses on track even when it's bright sunshine.
