I commuted from London to Bracknell in an old hot(ish) hatch this morning. The novelty had worn off long before I left the M4. Great on a B-road or for nipping around town, but on a motorway it just serves to remind how far we've come in the last 25 years.
if by that you mean a MK2 Golf GTi, then I have been doing the same thing the last couple of days - the M25 at 70 odd was what you might call wearing. I've borrowed a mates cars, and I was really looking forward to it, the rose tinted glasses are definitely off nowThis has turned up at a well respected classic car garage near me.
Very basic spec from the interior shot (though that probably suits me fine) and black not the best colour but price, mileage and condition look good.

Bit of digging and the previous owner worked off shore and traded for a 996 911 (good sign he wasn't afraid of big bills) had the running in service and should just have had inspection 2. Few months too late to be in the lower tax band but otherwise all good. HPI check comes back all clear except for a mileage double entry on the same day which looks like an obvious error. Anything else I should be checking other than life left in brakes and tyres. See if he will do a deal for my s2000 to get it shifted before winter. Silver one on AUK for £14.5k worth the extra for the peace of mind on the warranty?

I'm not really a fan of the Mk4 Supra (no idea why, shape + styling does nothing for me) but I really, really like that.500+BHP

My experience was 8v fun either end of the M25 and if I wasn't late for work, a not too bad run on the M25 with fridays being generally clear.
I suppose to put some degree of perspective on it, after the Golf was stolen I had an LS400 for a while for the same journey but got bored of the missing pedal so bought a slightly lowered and stiffened E36 M3 for the same job.
People like different things, I was just having a gentle pop that the Golf Mk2, though old, is still a very good, very versatile car.
However I will happilly concede that it would be a bit of a wake up call from the Alpina

still £500 to drop I think, see what he offers on my s2000. Prices always a bit softer in December/January and he won't want it sitting if it starts to snow up here - then it won't move till April
Edit Internet - I have first dibs ok :P
I'm betting he'll bid you in the balls on the s2000 for the same reason unfortunately.Edit Internet - I have first dibs ok :P

That bit I agree with. I've owned 30+ golfs over the decades in all variations and done a lot of miles in them. A good one can be very good, and a bad one not so great. Maybe I've been spoilt with different things after not being in one for 5 odd years, but one thing is for sure, my commute doesn't allow for any fun particularly tbh (put it this way, both an e36 M3 and an e36 M3 weren't exactly my best companions on the commute either)My experience was 8v fun either end of the M25 and if I wasn't late for work, a not too bad run on the M25 with fridays being generally clear.

IMO, what it amounts to is we all like different things right?

Garage I bought it from offered to buy it back so that might solve that issue though see what the offer is, not sure what it's worth though. WBAC about £7k at worst but a late 2005 facelift (17in wheels but still cable throttle) s2000 in the best colour (dark grey with black and red leather). 40k miles, pampered service history (was the group owner's mothers car so perfect condition and serviced every 3k miles) with recent new brakes and valve shim adjustment service. Similar cars up for sale for £11k private but probably happy to go as low as 9.KrisP said:
