Name someone better? Jose has been a success everywhere he's been whilst he's been a "recognised" manager, both Euro cups with Porto, lots of domestic success with Chelsea, Treble with Inter and at Real he set a new points and goals scored La Liga records despite being in the same league as a Pep managed Barcelona
Tbh he has always had heaps of money and talent. And even with that has been caught out numerous times by other managers and far weaker teams. You can't go on just results but what was available to get them.

He'd need a bloody big push IMO. Could anyone honestly say he'd make a world team starting XI ? No, thuoght not.
I'd be struggling to name him in a reserve World XI!
In fairness, I did say on the right day with the wind in the right direction smile

Mind you, even leaving out Rooney and De Gea, it's still two more than West Ham rolleyes

This is an interesting question.....the FFP only applies to those in the CL I believe, maybe Europa but not sure.....

Forgive my ignorance, but MU will definitely be in the Europa, right?

Can't see Giggs in the role permanently at all ... Too close to the current squad for it to work. And he is totally unproven as well! Sure, he won loads as a player when all he had to was play. Other side of the white line ... Hmmm not so sure. And you can't have all his mates there, scholes, Neville, Jesus, decision by committee or what ... could never work in my view.

I don't at all get the comments implying that Giggs can do the job. Being a great player is no indicator to becoming a great manager. That's just romance.
SAF was given the job because he proved to be a winner in extreme (Rangers Celtic) circumstances.
For me that's what our target should be, a proven winner. Doesn't necessarily have to be someone at the very peak if his success like JM but someone in his early years.
I'd love to say Ole Gunner but I think he needs 3 or 4 more years.
Simione ?
Klopp says no.
I like Blanc with his high level experience. He was and still us a class act.

Sky Sports is hilarious at the moment, trotting out the old stalwarts, Brian Robson, great player but possibly the worst manager ever to walk the earth, laying in to Moyes rofl

Fergie has gone, the Glaziers are a PR disaster as they appear to have no interest in the club and yet an unknown Utd spokesman is emphatic that it was a results, not a business decision rolleyes yet Utd stock jumped 3.7% after Moyes was sacked, it would seem they are worth more without a manager hehe

Utter shambles, which is sad for everyone who loves footy really .

This is why at the moment all roads for me lead to Van Gaal or Ancelotti should they want it, we have others who we want but they are 2-3 years away from being able to take it. Get someone in to steady the ship, bash some of the egos if need be and promote some youth and belief

Depends what the criteria is.

For all out success I'd go with Guardiola. For just this season you could argue Rodgers has done a better job, or even Pulis given the resources. I'd put Hiddink up there.

To say Mourinho is the best is as ridiculous as singling a player as as the best player out in the world. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and it's usually pointless to try and compare two different players or managers. He is one of the best though, however I'd argue that he was a better manager during his first stint at Chelsea manager and hasn't been as good since he was sacked.

nono

You underestimate how funny this is for non United fans. That's part of what football's about. Enjoyment of other teams' turmoil.

Turmoil? This is the best part of our season so far.

If we win the CL this season (I don't think we will) then Mourinho will be up for grabs. That's what evaded him first time round at Chelsea and once he wins it he'll be on the lookout for a move to a bigger club.

He's gone from Inter to Real Madrid and then back to Chelsea. Even as a Chelsea fan I can see that's a big step down. We're no Real Madrid in terms of size of club or prestige.
yes

I can see this happening too

Whilst I am thoroughly enjoying the current pain at Utd I agree 100% with your sentiments

I was thinking the same, although I think that would be too good to be true.

I don't think there is a better manager in the world at the moment than Jose!

I can't see Maureen going oop norf ... why do you think the hierarchy at Utd suddenly want him when apparently he wasn't good enough (or classy enough) last year? I'm not sure they do want him. Surely after giving Moyes a six-year contract - albeit with caveats - they ought to be looking to do things the Utd way* and would look for someone again with a view to a decent term. They won't get that from LvG. If appointed, that may not finish prettily either. I think the guy you appoint should be much younger than LvG.

Moyes' trouble was he should have sorted the team out before last season started - flogged some on etc - brought in some more players, and tried to impose himself more on the club, but he just seemed to keep them all on and not add to the squad. I think he thought they'd coast to a top four spot and then he could do what he wanted players in/out-wise, THIS summer. Dithering Dave was left dithering (and out of a job).

The game has changed for the worse in the last few years re managers coming and going. Was watching some Sky show yesterday about the infamous 95/96 season - the year you won the title after Cantona kept getting those goals in the 1-0 wins towards the end of the season - Newcastle, Arsenal, Leeds etc and they said (I think that this was in Feb/March) - that ONE Prem manager had lost his job so far that season - and I think that was Roy McFarland at Bolton ... 11 so far this season isn't it in the Prem? Shocking ...

I saw a stat where in 51 games, he never had the same starting XI - is that right?

  • where they think they are somehow immune from doing what others clubs do co they're 'Utd' ... been found out there.

Eh? You contradict yourself a few times.

I think if Jose did go (which I don't think he will) it would be for a long time. He hinted a few times last year that he would like the job.

What's the 'United' way? The same manager for 27 years because he was the best, that doesn't mean that if they had done bad under him, they wouldn't have got rid.

United had no choice but to sack Moyes. He was never suited!

Serious question, whats your thoughts on Michael Laudrup as the next manager? He's Young, plays attractive football, very ambitious (part of the reason he left Swansea), a big name to attract players & he's available?
