It's hard to back peddle at pace. It's similar to a wrong footed keeper, the ball might only be a matter of inches away, but if you're heading the wrong way, the. You've no chance.

Amos was a long way out of his goal and getting back with a ball that might be "hanging" but is still travelling at a fair old pace will still be pretty much impossible

Yeah, I get your point.

But in 30 years as a (average) goalkeeper, I never got caught out like that biggrin Probably because I got a nosebleed if I left my 6 yard box laugh

At least you'll never get lobbed that way, or if you do then it was a genius hit. I say that as I lobbed a keeper that way once, albeit that it was a mist that came of my shin then boot and went straight up and down. I couldn't believe it, but dined out on it for years.

A bit like this then?

With the emphasis on 'bit' tongue out

It was better! The ball was coming across from the left into my stride. I (mis)hit it with my right shin and then boot and it flew up in the air about 30 feet, then dropped like a stone once over the keeper and about 2 feet from the goal line and just made it under the bar, but probably bounced before it fully crossed the line. I was on the edge of the area, the keeper on his 6 yard line.

I readily admit now that it was a complete mist, I'm not sure how it happened and never got close to ever doing it again.

Any predictions for season 2014-2015?

I wouldn't be too upset if final table looked thus:

1. Citeh
2. Chelsea
3. Utd
4. Arsenal

Apart from the Citeh bit.

I'm not convinced Chelsea will be big improvement from last season.

Arsenal wouldn't know what a title challenge was if it bit them on the arseNE.

And I fully expect Brenda Rogers to be a one-season wonder.

Would you take 3rd place if it was offered now?

Absolutely not. We're United and we should be fighting for top spot all the time. If we fail, then we finish second, but we'll have given it everything, not compromised and settled for a CL spot.

I would forgive van Gaal if we don't win the league but make a bloody good go of it.

No European commitment means no excuses.

Citeh performed well against AC, quite why we are meant to care I'm unsure

Anyway Cie, get the tissues ready, Vidal returns from holidays today and goes to Juve to discuss what's gonna happen, you may need them one way or the other by tonight

I've not seen the match but what made it awful? I just worry that lots of goals and victories in friendlies is irrelevant and want to know that we're playing with a bit of style and passion.

Aside from the goals it was very congested and neither keeper had to do anything apart from the shots that flew in.
First ten minutes united were dreadful Roma could have been 2-0 up,then united dominated until half time ,then 9 players changed and second half was dire.
Lots of potential in the system but some flaws need ironing out,and we're clearly lacking players in some positions.

Thanks. Good to know that the second half was down the personnel changes.

No harm to keep abreast of how our rivals are getting on pre-season.

We'll be analysing them for sure once the season gets going.

I think it is more the way that you do it and not that you are just keeping tabs.

You seem excited by City!

Citeh couldn't possibly excite me. Not even close....

...me and the rest of the 5-a-side team dress up as Condorman on the 1st Sunday of each month.

We got a very attractive fixture with Internazionale on Wednesday.
