I think it's fair to say that any kid coming through the ranks at Manchester United will be up against it....but it's Manchester United academy's that they are playing in, not Crewe Alexandra's. If we can produce 3-4 players in the next 10 years that are good enough to play in the first team on a regular basis then that will be quite something.

To compete in the EPL and ECL now you have to have the best players, in the future it is possible that these players may not infact come from Gorse Hill.

Januzaj looks like he could be another Nani, sparks of talent, but I'm not sure he's going to reach the level for Utd. I certainly wouldn't swap him for Sterling and they're the same age.

Powell is 20 already, if he was going to make it you'd expect him to be pushing for a place on the bench given your midfield over the last year!

You guys just don't seem to be getting much out of your youth system lately. Well, I say lately, who has come out of your youth system to become a Utd regular in the last 10 years? Seems to be only Cleverley and you all seem to be in agreement that he isn't at the level required either.

I agree, Januzaj needs to start delivering, the pressure for starting slots at OT is going to be pretty intense and all the players will have to up their game. I for one can't bloody wait!!

Gone are the days of the class of 92. The pressure to win things, and constantly be in the champions league and top of the prem from a financial perspective means often clubs cannot really afford to give kids a chance. More often its less risky to just buy players from Europe who can hit the ground running.

Hopefully some of the youth players can get game time in other premiership teams to gain experience and see if they can perform at a high level consistently. Going to be tough but hoping Zaha, Powell etc can show they have the quality for the first team.

Read somewhere that Chelsea have 26 kids out on loan which is ridiculous and shows how top teams hoover up all the talent hoping they can get 1 or 2 players into the first team.

sleep

Where did I say he wasn't bothered about money?

He moved to Monaco SOLELY for the money, has realised his mistake and has taken a pay cut to join us. Of course he is bothered about money but he's realised its not all about that.

What, you mean how at 40 years of age rather than hanging his boots up when the season started to go bad, he carried on playing and trying to help the team? Not sure how people who don't know can assume that he led a revolt or didn't help DM. Not even DM could help DM!!
I think moyes got a bad deal.
It was rumoured he fell out with gigs.
Since moyes was the boss the p,ayers should have been 100 percent behind him.

I wouldnt want gigs as my no 2' nor i doubt would his brother.

Great player yes.
But thats it

Welbeck has just been shown the door on the basis that he wasn't good enough.

Blackett has made 3 appearances so not sure that you can make any positive or negative statement about him yet - stating that he has become a Utd regular would probably be stretching things (unless your reference period is the last 4 weeks).

Both were products of the youth system in the last ten years and deemed good enough to start for the first team in the premier league. One of which has just been sold for 16 million to bitter rivals Arsenal who are in the Champions League so he must be fairly good.

I reckon so, a couple of my Liverpool supporting friends flew into a blind rage over the Falcao deal yesterday. I've not heard from them since.

You've pretty much proved my point with Wellbeck! You don't sell a player to your bitter rivals if you rate him at all. The fact that he's had some games last season only proves how weak your squad had become.

And Blackett can't be rated too highly either considering you've just spent 50m on two players who can play in his position! Seems he's only got games because of injuries, not because he has been playing so well he deserved the promotion.

In all the other excitement this may have been missed but we also signed Timothy Fosu Mensah a 16 year old CB from Ajax 300k

He's meant to be very talented and a bit of a beast.

Welbeck was told he could go if he wanted to. He appears to be good enough for Wenger. We were not desperate to keep him as Wilson another academy graduate is better and needs game time.

We also have the Keane brothers out on loan, Reece James and Ben Pearson are knocking on the first team door. It's not 1992 but the academy is doing just fine.

We have an inexperienced defence, but weak squad? Let's wait and see!

With the amount of money LVG has been given to spend i doubt very much we will see any kind of youth player playing for united in the future.

Seems the trend these days with the bigger clubs is to just get these kids through puberty & sell them to the lesser clubs.

Hand on heart , how many youth players would the united team play if all their squad was 100% fit.
