Register1 site dead?
Discussion
Funny to look back over this thread now, several months after switching to TSOhost. I received a mail from them yesterday, apologising for the fact that my website was down for 10 minutes on Saturday, explaining that it was due to a severe DDoS attack and outlining the measures put in place to prevent it happening again. I don't think I ever received anything like that from Reg1.
10 minutes on Saturday. I never even noticed it was down.

I did, it took my email server out too... The head of support apologised and explained the issue, they said I had run out of memory, I knew that was BS, but they go it back online quite quick, so didnt pry.10 minutes on Saturday. I never even noticed it was down.
Then that message came though and kind of explains why the head of support was in the office on a weekend.
Good group... though they really hate to support iPhones and iPads with their email servers.
Hummm ........
I've seriously being considering moving away from them, and have been following this thread carefully.
In the last week, Mrs. Kinkys emails stopped coming. Then she got hit with about 3 days worth of emails all at once. And it's been sporadic ever since. My email (exact same setup) has been functioning as normal. Or at least I think so. It's been a bit quieter than usual, which i put down to summer holidays, etc.
The only thing is that I'm sure my email is routed directly via Win live admin centre. So I suspect if there is a problem, it's at the MSFT end and not Register1.
In fact, I need to figure it all out. It was so long ago I set it all up, I can't recall how I did it!
So that all said, best advice on who to use? Most important requirement is my private domain email address. Content hosting is not important, as I only use it for posting pics and it's not publicly accessible anyway.

IIRC there were some problems on live yesterday, but I didn't experience any disruption on office365 which I moved all my private domains over to a few months ago.
I gave up running and managing my own mail services after 8 years, besides outbound SMTP, and have advised all my clients to migrate to 365. It's so cheap and functional it seems nuts not to! Is highly recommend it.
I still run my own London-based colo for my own VMs, lab and customer machines.

I cannot recommend Vidahost/TSO enough. I use them for personal and business.Give them a call and they will tailor a solution for you very quickly.

Moved off Register1 when email went down and they blamed me and refused to help.
Register1 has been steadily going downhill for ages. I have a notification from Jetpack saying my self-hosted Wordpress blog has gone down on an almost daily basis, sometimes several times a day, for between 2 and 15 mins each time on average (but sometimes for more than 30 mins). This has been going on for almost 2 months now. It's pathetic.
I'm not sure when each of my VDS renewals are due, but I will without doubt be looking to move as each comes up for renewal.
