driving After almost 11-years of enjoying my beloved 993: driving in all weathers and for all purposes, in 2010 I decided to tidy her up a bit. This of course led to a full body restoration. Amazing how you get carried away once you start spending! The finished job was eventually superb, (took about 6-months) due to my OCD being more highly developed than theirs, but when I drove out of the bodyshop it did feel like driving a new car again. Even found myself admiring our shiny reflections in shop windows for a while!

Anyway all good, and in fact a trip to OPC led to the DP admiring the car, and an invite to display in the showroom for the 911 evolution line-up during the 991 Launch. The car stayed with them in the showroom from early December to mid Feb, so for the first time in my ownership, she had spent part of the winter indoors!

So what was the downside?

frown To put it simply, over the course of just over a year, my 911 changed from a daily-driver-all-weather-park-anywhere-motor, into a shiny high days and hoidays car! I found myself driving the wife's daily snotter if the weather was a tiny bit inclement, and sometimes went weeks without jumping in my P&J.

drivingI am pleased to say that for the last year or so, I have made a real effort: less polishing/more driving and though I no longer have to commute on a daily basis, I am once again using the 993 for all purposes, from high speed pleasure blasts along B roads splattering throught the cowflap, to picking up stuff from the builders merchants, etc, etc!

So, almost 4-years after restoration, now in my 16th year of ownership, I continue to enjoy my 993 in the fullest possible sense, and look forward to maybe another 16-years or so of ownership, by which time I might be too doddery to drive as intended and may consider sellng!

So be carefull out there guys - if your car is too shiny you may become reluctant to get her dirty!

Just come back from a 300 mile welsh jaunt. the 993 didn't miss a beat, the weather at times was awful and she is now in absolutely shocking condition.
I might clean her before her service if she's lucky smile

She notched up 122k miles today, bless her.

Outstanding, 993 was my first real Porsche crush...

When I can, my plan is to buy a 993 and do it up.

More photos please.

So so true, I didn't drive mine for a year after restoration, back to normal now though.

I agree. I am masking a change to my fleet in order to ensure that my summer toy can be used, not polished. I intend to shop in it too... And the car I hope to buy already has close to 100k miles on the clock too, so it'll be totally unsaleable should I chicken out!

Its a good point Boo.

I am getting some paint done on my 993 this year and I know its going to make me even more precious about it, which is what I have been trying to get away from!

Sounds great! Post the pics please!
Last month my 993TT went in for the same. I have to say, apart from the stone chips (more like shot gun blasts!) there was barely a mark on her. A tiny bubble on the rear chassis sections, a bit under the screen (previous OPC) repair and that's it. Will probably be a couple more months to complete too.

A good post OP,

I had the front end of my 993TT painted mid last year due to stonechips (midnight Blue), Im ashamed to say that since it came back from the bodshop its been out once. In my defence its the first time Ive addressed the ever increasing stonechips in 10 years of ownership but still poor drills!!

Shortly after having my 2nd 3.2 Carrera fully resprayed I had to drive along a freshly laid dual carriageway in the slow lane with the company reps flying past spraying loose stones in their rep mobiles! weeping

As per my previous post, I am now back to driving and enjoying in all weathers.
Thanks for looking.

The other week I was tidying my garage

Rested my sons bike against my motorbike

It slipped and banged against my 964 ((painted only 3 years ago)

The rubber grips had worn out at the end of the handlebars.............really nasty scratch and two scabs in the paint..............my fault too !!!!!!!!!!!!

These things happen she is still going to drive the same way ......I keep telling myself

That 911 looks in pretty good condition before the repaint etc.

What was the reason for repaint/sills etc?
