Spotted this advert for a GTC. Price of £100'000 seems pretty chunky given that a normal 348 is around £30'000.

Do people think it is worth that? How much different to drive is it from a normal 348?

If it had something close to delivery miles it might be worth at least asking for that price but that's bonkers.

A CS wasn't far off that a little while ago and I know which will depreciate more.

Possibly, but I think it's trying to ride the back of (IMO very over-inflated) CS asking prices.

That said on paper it should be comparable in price to a CS in my head:

1) much rarer only 8 RHD and 50 total vs nearly 1300 CSs
2) 190 kg weight saving over the TB vs CS 180kg over the Modena
3) squeezed another 20 bhp from a 3.4 vs another 20bhp from a 3.6
4) based on (2) and (3) and using kerb weight, from TB --> GTC the power-to-weight ratio went up by nearly 24%, from Modena --> CS, it went up by just over 20%

To me it seems that the GTC engineers did a relatively better job when producing the performance version of their model than the CS guys did.

More food for thought, based on kerb weights again: GTC has 271 bhp/tonne, F355B has 278 => only 2.4% difference

Had a look around this car yesterday and it is superb. Engine bay photo doesn't give it justice at all - no fancy dressings, just clean and looking like it was a day old.

On the points:

1) Agree
2) Need to factor in the increase in Euro safety compliance for later cars, not as straight forward as before. To fit Eddie Irvine's golf clubs behind the seats and generally be more practical, the Modena had to become a much bigger car.
3) Modena is 400BHP from a 3.6 111bhp/litre, CS is 118bhp per = +7 per/litre. 348GTC 88bhp/litre increasing to 94 bhp/litre = +6. nothing in it either-way. As an aside, 458 Speciale 133bhp per litre!
4) Same as no.2

Agree with the point that the CS market has been good news for the 348GTC but it is also partly from the generally strong classics market.

I totally agree, there's not a lot in it, but I guess my point was 2-fold:

1) the percentage increase in specific output is still bigger in the GTC than the CS, if only by a few percent. Which, combined with the rest of the changes means....
2) the GTC is totally comparable in heritage and execution to the CS, whereas I would say something like a road going 355 challenge isn't frown

Incidentally, I've always wondered what an F355 GTC/CS would have been like. It makes me all tingly to imagine what exactly they could have squeezed out of the 3.5 litre engine and how it would have felt in a car that weighed 180kg+ less! So long as they kept a manual 'box wink I wonder if anyone ever tried to create it themselves?

With a bit of black paint and replacing those orange mostrosity pipes with something a little more pleasing to the eye that'd be porn. 480bhp in a 355? That'd be superb - F430 power in the last really pretty Ferrari cloud9

Yeah! Did you see the quoted price for the engine modifications? headache
And then you haven't done any weight savings to the car... nevertheless I really would like to
see the final result

how does this compare to the 348 Koenig twin turbo
in terms of rarity and pedigree?

I don't like the look of the Koenig, think the 348C looks much better but the K has more power and is cheaper (for a reason though I assume)

My Mechanic says the build quality of the Koenig Testarossa he had to sort out was terrible

That car has been for sale for at least a year. It has its attractions I guess...shame that it was specced as an F40 wannabe. Had it have been a little more standard in terms of body, I think it would have sold.

Yeah, would def be a bit painful! Maybe if you found a cheap, 100k miler (amazing how there see to be none about with average miles barely changing year on year.... scratchchin ) private sale for say mid £20ks it would be worth it

I rang about the 348, they said "its asking price only (£34995 last year) and you take it as it is no offers"
i was happy with the price and the challenge of many surprises i was going to find when i bought the car (and all ready had in my head a full strip resto).
I was told it has a deposit on the car and if the sale does not go through they would ring me back.

They did not ring me back so assumed it was sold, so few weeks later when it was still for sale on pistonheads i rang again and was told by a salesperson its still for sale and he would get the owner/boss to ring me back, this did not happen????

Then the price went up 5k ?????

so i went and bought a more expensive F355 from a PH member no finance etc just like i told the company in question that i am not a messer and WILL buy the car outright.

so is it really for sale or is it a way of getting more exposure to dealership as this has gone through my mind.

The 348 has had at least 3 maybe 4 new threads about the car and dealership.
