Why, what does it do? Is there something lurking within?!

Like the house (the interior at least). Not sure about the slice of Kyoto in the garden...

that is absolutely fking lovely
And has one of the most un-sociable kitchens I've seen. This is one of the most ridiculous trends in modern kitchen design, everyone sits in a line.

They had a Morgan Aero Supersport in their garage. Just noticing things...

House isn't my cuppa though

Don't know about anyone else, but I have spent too many nights living away from home in actual hotels, so it's very definitely not something I want my house to resemble. And as for contemporary design, well there is good and bad, and I like good contemporary design, but this house isn't an example of it.
It's obviously not so much a home as somewhere to entertain your industry 'friends'.

This is not dissimilar but looks like something you could actually live in:

My wife would love the wardrobes and would like that infinity pool, but those shower walls would be a bugger to keep clean. But overall, yes that is more like a home.

Is it an "infinity" pool or a moat to prevent burglars scaling the wall and getting in?

Basically shrinks by at least 10% of its original mass, twists and cracks. Green oak (well any unseasoned timber) and a modern house do not make good bed fellows

I agree. Madness. I would never design something so unsociable for an area that is meant to be sociable,

Design over lack of common sense comes to mind.

Martello Tower conversion in Suffolk: CLICK HERE

Beautifully done and wonderfully remote!
Not very PH friendly, though - no garage, unmade road access spin

Edited: To fix link
