A couple of days ago, on the A30 near Blackbushe, I spotted a gleaming red Sunbeam Rapier Fastback, looking lovely in the sunshine.

Then today I saw an early Mustang convertible, red, with the top down, and wedding ribbons on the front, in Ash. And two lovely, early E-Types. First was a dark red coupe, the second was a lighter red convertible. Further along was a nice Stag, and in Abinger Hammer there were 4 lovely looking Stags outside the garage/restorers on the road to Holmbury St Mary. Mostly no photos, as I was on my bike, but I grabbed a snap of the Stags outside the garage...

Four consecutive years too, judging by the registration plates. 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975

I was told by the garage owner that this car was built in 2010, not rebuilt, from all new parts.

From a quick look it is believable.
Yup

More info here - Don't know how much it would be worth but he will never get his money back I reckon

Thanks for that.

The garage man also mentioned the £120K that is stated in the article.
That is an insane amount to spend on a DS regardless of age/condition.

This is parked up the road too as well as a smattering of other interesting metal.
i thought that was a Citroen Mehari but then i noticed the VW badge, so I did a bit of digging. Apparently these are a VW 181/182, and were sold over the world under a variety of names between 1968 and 1980. VW Trekker in the UK, but in the USA these were genuinely sold under the name VW "Thing". They were originally developed as a military amphibious vehicle, but had some success as a civilian vehicle. I think, pretty cool and undoubtedly rare. Great spot!

Fascinating place. I grew up not 5 miles away from there and for as long as I remember there's been a collection of Stags in various states of repair in that carpark.

Iva - hope you never have to deliver up Hoe Lane in anything bigger than a Transit hehe

Ha, I was down Hoe Lane (chortle) with a car and trailer last week - that was bad enough. Mostly because of the road surface! You local?

I live in Banstead, not that far away and the company has many customers stuck down little lanes like that .It's where the cost effective units are for the small businesses.

Gordon Sutherland who owned AM at one time owned of Abbotts the Coachbuilders. It was Sutherland who sold AM to David Brown after the war. Sutherland's garage business in Old Windsor was Friary Motors. When Ford jibbed at the name Abbott for a conversion they marketed (because of its Vauxhall connections) Abbott also used the name Friary for the conversions. The business failed when major manufacturers started to make their own big estate cars.

There's an informal monthly classic meet there every 2nd Sun @12 which often has some interesting vehicles.
