The mainstream film industry has got itself stuck in this dumb profit cycle, where they have to churn out this shameless cack beause it's the only way of making enough profit to support... the next one.
The same thing is happening to other industries (gaming in particular). Computer games in the 80s and 90s were full of diversity, imagination and creativity. Mobile gaming should be there now. It's a new medium absolutely brimming with potential with devices capable of huge performance, so we should be in a golden phase of gaming.
Instead, the industry has gone straight for the money and we have to trudge through adverts, scams, credits and in-game payments at the hope of finding some gameplay in there, somewhere.
The sooner people stop paying to see this crap the better for all of us.

You may think they're cack but the box office figures suggest there are an awful lot of people out there who think they aren't. Also, how many other films have been given the green light thanks to the huge profits these films make?

The problem isn't that it's pretty much just action. It's that Michael Bay has long since "lost it" when it comes to actual structuring of the action. t" is what Michael Bay does. It's just a bunch of random shots of stuff exploding. Nobody expects Citizen Kane or anything out of it, but compare it to his earlier stuff like The Rock and Bad Boys; they have the crazy level of action but it's all structured in a way that makes sense, they have simplistic plots and characterisation that work effectively, etc.
Compare these two:
The "'you just trashed your Ferrari!' 'it's not mine'" chase from The Rock.

It's built up logically out of cause and effect and it has a reasonable spacial awareness to it - the cars go from one location to another.

Oh, they're running in the middle of a huge building. Then there's some transformers on the other side of the room from each other shooting. Now they're punching each other. Now shooting each other and falling out the wall. Now the people running around the building are in the truck and the Camaro. Now everything is suddenly happening in a forest and the Camaro has been left behind, but there's been nothing to show this having happened. It contains all the consistency of the Old Spice "the tickets are now diamonds" ad and as a result isn't satisfying no matter how big the explosions.
Michael Bay films should be a cinematic burger and fries, but lately it's like he's just poured a bag of sugar on a plate.
