It's a problem of many parts.

If they cover it in speed cameras and restriction then people will complain.
If they leave it open then people complain.

There's no answer that will please everyone.

Not many people put as much thought into driving as the average PHer. The first people know about there being slippery conditions can be when they're spinning into the road furniture. Other times people lack understanding of how to use their equipment in those conditions. You can hardly blame people for not having the required knowledge, as it doesn't form proper part of the driving test, though you could blame them for venturing out without that knowledge in place.

I used to travel over Kirkstone in the Lakes all the time in wintry conditions and was always surprised how many cars crashed or got stuck in relatively passable conditions. I note last week 11 people had to be rescued after getting stuck.

Abit of a rant really. Sick of it. I only drive up and down there once a week and every week over winter I see a car on its roof/side or into something.

This weekend, early morning (bright sunshine) there were the odd streams of frosted snow/water (probably 3 max) ontop of the usual spot where ice forms every year.

Now you drive over it- grip goes for 0.25seconds then its back. So why did one drive r freak and drive head on into a stone/wired block? You drive over Snake in winter you kinda know its going to be challenging so you wont be a new driver unless your lost?

On top of this I had a teenager in a Fiesta come up fast behind me, then we hit the usual ice patch. He disapeared. I waited up the road (to make sure he was ok/before turning round) before he finally drove up and past...slowly.

This is ontop of the usual overtakes on double-solid white lines etc etc etc etc etc.

fking idiot. All of them. There should be an extra driving test before allowing people on there.
I was going over on Saturday night with a bit of rain (not a downpour, just drizzle), that was enough to slow traffic to 30-35mph pretty much the whole way from Marple to Sheffield.

Its going to get worse - modern cars insulate drivers too much from what is actually happening.

The driver therefore gets much less experience/feel on a daily basis on what the four tyres are ACTUALLY doing.

Most of the time the car does everything for them. They crash when the car can't do it all for them.
