Evening guys,

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a life long petrol-head, a long-time Pistonhead, and I've just bought myself a tidy little Blobeye Wagon! I'll be picking it up on Wednesday evening, and I'm very excited!

Can you guys recommend a decent forum to join? I've set myself up with an account on ScoobyNet for the time being, but wondered what you guys recommended.

Scoobynet is a useful forum for some things but there are a lot of aggressive keyboard warriors on there that I have zero interest in dealing with. NASIOC is usually pretty good and more technically aware too - the cars there tend to be used properly rather than the pampered princesses on SN.

Go to Facebook, lots of Subaru stuff on there. Ask to become a member.

There are various other groups on FB where you can buy and sell bits, etc... What i've linked there is my own group.

My word the Blobeye shape really suits the wagon, health to drive.

Cheers guys. I'm dead chuffed with it so far.

Never really been a fan of the wagons, particularly the classic Imprezas, but think the blobeye looks great.

...weirdly, I've had a lot of comments at work about me going through a mid-life crisis (I'm 31). Why aren't people allowed to just have a nice car, without derogatory comments! So annoying

I have an 05 blob-eye wagon too. IMHO the blob-eyes are the best looking Impreza model. My wagon came with privacy glass aft of the B-pillar, which didn't help with the acusations of mid-life crisis and chav-chariot being levelled at me. I'm 49.

You may want to consider an LPG conversion if you're a regular user....

Good choice , solid 2.0 engine with the fun turbo lag and in the lower tax band than most of the hawk wrx wagons. I hope there are still some similar for sale in the future!

Looking to sell mine next year to move to a Legacy.

05 WRX Wagon, silver, privacy glass, LPG conversion, Blaupunkt bluetooth single DIN headunit with IR steering wheel remote. Currently 101kmiles, I've owned it since 60k; I expect mileage to be IRO 115k by time of sale.

Iv done just that over this winter..
sold the Bug WRX Wagon and got myself an 07 JDM Legacy GT Spec B MT6. The GT certainly feels (alot) faster when in S+ mode, but slower when in regular S or (shame of it) Eco mode. Turbo appears to come in about 2500 and doesnt realy go away.
obvously feels larger and heavier. replaced brake discs, pads and SS pipes from GodSpeed help confidence. 4 new summer tyres and looking for 17's for the winter to improve ride as the Billis and STI springs are a little firm on 18"s with rough roads in winter.
Have jet to sort the handling to my taste, Castor kit, ARB arrived today.
A remap is in the plan for the near future..
over all the car is a much nicer place to be as a DD and is total stealth.

How are you finding it on fuel next to a WRX?

Yes, it's not something you buy to be frugal but I commute at least 250 miles a week and I don't want to experience a significant drop.

I commute 20 miles each way, mix B roads and dual carrageway.
I get about the same 10.something ltr per 100Km I got from the Bug which is about 27mpg.

PS. she defaults back to S mode after using S# and you cant change to S# untill the engine is warm, so I always forget to select S#, which is a shame as the difference is marked.

That's pretty interesting. I can find a few threads around talking about Twin Scroll GT fuel consumption but it's obviously subject to driving habits! Having a comparison vs a WRX is more meaningful.

Could I ask if your WRX is standard or not? I had a bugeye and used to average 27 out of it. I'm on to a blob now and with a decat/ported up pipe, 200cpi (prodrive) downpipe and rear decat plus a map and I see 33mpg.

As I understand it, the three modes have completely different tables in the ROM. I was thinking that with some careful tuning the Eco mode could be made even more frugal for commuting (my commute presents little opportunity to do anything other than sit at 50 behind the car in front for 25 miles so I'd be happy to have a very conservative map on tap).

It's a real pain not being able to try a car for a couple of weeks to check out the real world fuel consumption. It's not the be-all-and-end-all but I have to draw a line somewhere!

I insult mine before people get a chance wink

Never heard of it as a mid-life-crisis car before! It's got a roof, for a start. It's usually just chav-chariot wink

Iv no idea.. once iv got the castor mods done and Im happy with the feel I plan on pinging Bob Rawl to come over and go whatever he does.
If its is 3 different maps, then that does sound like an idea, having the ECO map as a motorway cruise map and the other 2 as regular driving.

If I remember later in the summer, remap and some miles with it I will post back and report changes done and findings.

Bob is a genius!

He has done my maps and the current car has maps for 97 (emergency if I can't get 99), 99 (normal) and 99 + Anti-lag & Launch control. I have a Alcatek so more is possible but that works fine for me. I only ever use the normal 99 map anyway.

I've had a quick look at a map from a 2008 STi. First drive-by-wire ROM I've looked at. Whilst I moan about the lack of features in my old '02 ECU, it's simplicity is quite nice for a beginner!

The target boost table uses requested torque and RPM as X and Y.

Requested torque comes from throttle position and RPM, for which there are three different tables (s, s# and Intelligent).

There may be some other factors, but I've not had time to look over the whole thing yet.

I do 300miles per week and I had an LPG conversion (£1270) done within a month of buying the car. I've done >40,000 on LPG, I scrupulously measured consumption for the first 20k, 24.43mpg on gas. Gas being between 54 and 62p/litre. the convesion paid for itself in just under a year.
