Rust and air suspension, check for both.

Other than the just the usual injectors, but I've had them refurbed for £80 for this engine, so not a biggy.

The 320 may not have air suspension, only standard on the V8s I think. Get on the smoker barge thread for the definitive answer.

But do check for rust, then check again.

I did wonder about the rust, but couldn't remember which period that was an issue.

It's not an issue unless it's far developed. Otherwise it's expected a bargaining point, and something to keep on top of.

My e class needs a bit of tlc at the body shop this summer.

If it whiffs of diesel its injector seals, if they get changed, make sure they change the stretch bolts, otherwise you get a portion of fuel rail with injectors still attached through the engine cowl.
