I have finally Sussex it and it's easy. Just turn on your hotspot on your iphone and job done. I have used it all now, weather, Facebook, goggle etc and even downloaded routes I have sent to mercedes via google.

Thanks Dave. I was trying to get this working at the weekend and failed. I'll give it another go with the hotspot on.

Edited to add that it works a treat but how did you get routes uploaded?

Hi Simon,
How you enjoying the beast- great aren't they!
While online in the car have a scout around the route settings and you will find the car I'd. Make a note of that. Go to google maps .com not uk and plan a route. In the top left hand corner there is a symbol that looks like a chain link. Click on that and send to car, select mercedes and enter your cars I'd. Press send. It will probably say unable to send but it will have sent. Then go back to your car, connect to phone, go to sat nav online and download route and save to card, you will need to have a sad card in the slot. Once that is done go to normal sat nav and select routes and your route will be ther.
Sounds really complicated but makes sense when you have play. Any probs I can always pop round.
Dave

I'm enjoying the car thanks. I love the engine and the noise is glorious. Haven't got used to the lower grip levels (read increased power) yet.

Am interested to hear the details of how this is setup.

I've read about this 'hotspot' idea before but never got it working frown

All I do is have my iphone connected as usual through Bluetooth. Then go to settings and turn hotspot on and then go to the world symbol on the car. Then you should see a blue bar appear on your phone saying one connection.

It works for me exactly as Dave describes. I wonder if you guys have different command hardware?

There is a hardware issue with the Comand Online, that will not allow the Iphone to connect to Comand for internet access - only from a certain build date is it possible, IIRC June 2013

What model iPhones are you guys using? By all accounts a 5s/c works, but previous phones won't connect.

I'm using an iPhone 4S on a C63 coupe which I've only just picked up. I guess the build date was late 2013 but i don't know for sure.

Why do they even bother to market the Comand Online feature when no one I can find seems to be able to connect up? shoot

Does anybody know for sure what changed between pre/post June 2013 ?

I was led to believe the reason it doesn't work is that Apple would not sell the appropriate API/Licensing to MB.

I connected my Blackberry up the other day only to find that the car can read out my TXT messages ... quite handy on long trips smile

This has been covered many times before but in an effort to help:

The early (pre Jun 13) cars used Dial Up Networking DUN (yep DUN died about 1996). For some reason Mercedes decided to persevere with DUN up until Jun 13. Blackberry works because they too used DUN as a handshake protocol, (how the car talks to the phone). Apple decided right from the beginning that DUN was dead, (which in all fairness it was), and did not include it in the iPhone. That is why Command Online in pre Jun 13 cars does not work with iPhone, (but you can still use the bluetooth functions etc).

Hope that helps.

Tom.
