Upgrade Air Filter or keep OEM?

I'm in the process of retrofitting the K&N cone filter in my Turbo2000 with the original Subaru airbox and panel filter. Is it recommended to fit a 'sports' panel filter? If so what brand/type is most popular?

I believe the oiled K&N design can damage the MAF sensor; hence the reason Im going back to the original setup

The standard set up is apparantly pretty good so unless it is mapped for the k&n and you need to keep the flow levels up the original system should be fine. The green cotton panel filters seem to be a good replacement option.
