Hi everyone,

Not posted here in a little while but just came across an article mentioned on a local government website that I HAD to share! Turns out that some councils across the UK have been spending tax payers money on pretty fancy cars whilst we slum it!

http://www.intelligentcarleasing.com/blog/councils...

The worst offender was in Cheshire spending over £140k on a Bentley.

I didn't think this sort of thing would be going on after the MP's expenses scandal, am I just being naive... what do you think?

Haha fair point on the fact that Bentley's are manufactured in Cheshire. Supporting their local industry I guess; but still excessive in my opinion at that price!

That's not quite right - Cheshire East and Cheshire West have one each. wink

Yeah it could blow up to be something big if that was proved to be the case! Don't think anyone's going to put on their Sherlock hat though haha.

Perhaps?

Car was £25-£30k new, add in a limo conversion (rather than just a "factory" LWB) and I could understand.

Are the prices quoted in the article RRP, or what the council paid? It's possible they got the Bentley's very cheap for PR.

That looks likely. But how long have they had it? If on lease it has cost a lot of cash over many years. If outright purchase it will be depreciated to almost nothing by now.

I'm guessing they would quote what it actually cost, rather than what it's currently worth - although the page is light in detail on this.

our council uses Skoda superb for the mayor. can't say I begrudge them that. However in th'olden days Rolls and Daimlers where the car of the Mayor.

It used to be quite common for the local mayor to be driven around in a Daimler Limo or even a Roller. A bit excessive in the modern era though.

A few years ago there was a furore in North Yorkshire when the Chief Constable went out and bought a load of Volvo's and Land Rovers for senior officers to swan around in. Where the public purse is concerned people have to have a bit of common sense.
