Hi - Hopefully someone can help here!

My car will need a new windscreen for its MOT in 3 months time. The current windscreen is wearing silicone shower sealant owing to a leak that appeared last year (Gasket had perished and roof had rusted). I took the cheap and simple option because I knew the screen would only have to come out anyway.

Has anyone here had Autoglass et al come out and remove a screen, then disappear for a few days and return later to fit the new glass? This would allow me time to have remedial works done to the leading edge of the roof which is rusty (but treated with Kurust) and is smeared in a bit of sealant (to keep the weather out)

SO: will a glass company do the job in two bits?
ALSO: how much do you think it'll cost in bodywork repairs. How front leading edge needs grinding back and painting in the correct colour.

All help appreciated, this is new ground to me!

Take the screen out yourself? Then when they come to fit the new one, ask them to take it away?

Rather than autoglass I'd either find yourself a local windscreen fitter or try and remove it yourself. Autoglass work at rather expensive rates for fixed-cost jobs, whereas a local chap might spare you half an hour on two different days to help you out. smile

Autoglass will come and take it out then wait while it gets the rust repaired before fitting the new glass. Done it plenty of times.

Is the screen cracked?

If not, it'll come out in one piece. Gimme a shout; happy to help.
