New brush, new broom it seems. The wallpaper is a smorgasbord of the old photos scanned and made into the fabric, so they are there if you look - well, some of them anyway. I just miss seeing the "real thing" somehow, but I am growing used to it; and the revamped bedrooms are superb in any book. As I mentioned in my first post, it is just being an old fart these days and somewhat fixed in my ways that set me back. Just like the Green Man at Silverstone which used to be the haunt of all drivers back before the 90s when it was taken over by a big chain and lost all character, all photos removed. You can't say the Hotel de France has lost its character though. Still has it in spades.

Not all photos have gone. There is now a (monochrome) photo montage of the history of the hotel and All the cars and drives that have stayed at the hotel. This includes lots of the old photos but many more new ones. All with a brief description both in French and English. To get a idea visit the new web site and look at the History section or visit the Hotel it will be worth it. I was there in March and can't wait to return for the test weekend.

Always head there Sunday evening for a coffee, pression or a pastis with the group.

Everyone a bit tired and chilling out.

Always some nice cars outside, very charismatic place

Have a look at this months Classic and Sportscar for a selection of wonderful pictures taken by the previous owners of the hotel in days gone past. These include race winning cars casually parked out the front etc

Bit of a thread resurrection but a visit to the Hotel de France is definitely on my to-do list this year. It sounds a great place so hoping to fit in a long weekend at some point.

I'm booked in for the full week. My 26th year at the Hotel de France. Also going to Tours the weekend before for the "Grand Prix of Tour" (nothing to do with Bernie)

Thanks for the heads-up in the other post S A B
This isn't the place we stayed at in 2001 but it looks to be worth a run down anyway and now I have the thread bookmarked I can check whats on the calendar before we set off.

Old thread I know, but the Friday at LMC in 2016 is a classic car display in the parking area opposite, and I've also booked in for the lunch at the Hotel. Seems to be a popular meeting point now! Last time I was there in 1995, so be interesting to see the changes..

Cheers,

Been there twice this week and as usual a simple meal on the terrace with a nice chilled bottle of wine. Love the place. Surprised you could book for the Friday though - they refused bookings last year.

They are much more "on the map" now.

It was amusing at Le mans this year, my Evora was allowed into the closed of parking in the square but my mates 911 wasn't smile

He was well hacked off

Dropped in on the Monday after the race - I thought that the images on the wall had been quite tastefully done.
