I'm due to have a brain tumour removed on 11 August so the first two weeks that the Canadian Lancaster is over here will be a big no no for me.
That's awful... I really hope it goes well for you mate.

Probably shouldn't repeat this as it was mentioned at RIAT a couple of weeks ago - I was working there & was chatting to some pilots as you do.

However....

It is being said that both Lancs will be flying low over Derwent Water dam a couple of times after which they will hook up with 558, both being Avro products, for some special & unique fly-bys.

I don't know when this is going to happen, if at all, however if it does happen it will make for a stunning sight.

Just hope that I can to see the two Lancs together at some time - I'm due to have a brain tumour removed on 11 August so the first two weeks that the Canadian Lancaster is over here will be a big no no for me.

Looking forward to updates from Maff.
I hope the Op goes well and you get to see some of the Canadian Lanc while here.

Interesting comments about XH558 and the welcoming committee, I sadly can't get the time off work, but it'll make excellent footage

I dropped Maff a message on twitter, and with his agreement I will try to repost his tweets here, and let him post greater detail when he can.

Met with the @CWHM team today what a great bunch of guys and enthusiasts, they have an amazing setup in Hamilton, big boys toys :-)

Just now:
On way to the @CWHM this morn. Test flight of the Lanc later, a flight in a B25 over Tiger Cats stadium, and a trip in a Stearman. Wow!

That's not all of them, sadly I can't post the images at work, but will add them tonight.
With that last one, he is getting his moneys worth! Though I expect part of the B25 is a familiarisation flight

I overheard that the escort will be two euro fighters, and either a spitfire and hurricane or the bumf Lancaster. And then as we land the red arrows will do a fly past.
Hi Matt,
congratulations on doing the Most Amazing Trip of a lifetime.
Do have the very best of luck.

On the training side, how did the parachute jumping go?
Do you get to be, tail gunner??
Please do not ask where the planes computer is!

Look forward to the updates.

Mark.

Not a derail-is what this thread is about, sharing Lancasters. A nice father/son share moment.

Maff has just tweeted
Just met a couple in their 80's who have DRIVEN over 3000 miles to watch us take off in the Lancaster. #pintsofbeer http://t.co/cKkpU5voPg

Driving is not the problem, convincing my boss that I need more leave than my T+C allow....

Reminds me of a Max Boyce song. We all had doctors papers....

60 miles wouldn't bother me, it would be the three hours it takes to do the last two that would put me off.

Anyway; just found out they are going to be up North on the weekend of 6/7 Sep. bounce

Lost track of this thread, but I'mw flying back to the UK on board the Canadian Lancaster next week, really looking forward to it. Currently in the US, but set off for Hamilton tomorrow eve to start crew training ready for Sundays 4 day flight. I haven't used twitter much but will do from Wednesday, plan to report as much as possible of the flight home via @maffmunson

Flying into Coningsby is going to be fun :-)
You are one very lucky chap. A lot of people on PH would love to have the same opportunity as you.

Just sitting sitting in a Lancaster would be an amazing experience.

I hope you have blue skies for the flight and enjoy it. Please post lots of photos on here once you have returned.
. . . and I thought I was lucky sitting in the cockpit of one last week, in Canada biggrin Not the one that's flying over, another one at the Bomber Command Museum in Nanton, Alberta.

Just reading on the latest XH588 email

'Many will be aware that the only other airworthy Avro Lancaster in the world, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's aircraft is coming over to the UK very soon to join the RAF's BBMF Lancaster at RAF Coningsby.

Aware of the importance that a unique three Avro aircraft formation would represent, we are in discussions with both the BBMF and the CWHM about the possibilities. More when we have it.'

Would be unbelievable to see the 3 of them fly together

XH558 have obviously realised they're not going to make any money in August.

Aren't the two Lancs going to do a flyover of East Kirby with Just Jane doing a fast taxi? Now that would be something to see, not to mention hearing the 12 Merlins together.

You wouldn't hear the Lanc's engines over the Vulcan.

I wouldn't be too sure about that, the Vulcan has to throttle right back to fly slow enough and you can hear 1 Lancaster over the top of the Vulcan here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNxtJX6KKQk

2 would drown out the Vulcan smile
