very frustrating its free and the channel is there but its not available to view via any of my devices

my older sony TV with freeview shows the channel but does not allow it to view
my new tv with freeview (less than 5 months old) shows the channel but does not allow it to view.
my main BT tv channel does not offer freeview as a channel.

SO its free but its locked out of most devices whats the point in that?

It's only available on FreeviewHD and HD+ devices and not that many of those! the Humax FOX-HDR-T2 doesn't work with it. It depends whether the box or TV has MHEG enabled.

Motors is fantastic, the stuff it covers would never be shown anywhere else, I live in constant fear of it closing down, adverts from Opie Oils and dog charities can't bring in much cash. I suspect someone loses a lot of money on it.
Generally, club racing series pay for a TV company to come and film their races and edit it in to programmes which are then given to Motors free to be shown.

Granted there are issues with this new development but any larger audience at all is still a bonus. The season final for my race series still holds Motors record for the most viewers, need to see if we can beat it this year.

It Looks like the New Humax the HDR-2000T will support Motors tv. It's frustrating seeing what's on and not being able to watch it!

Looks like you need to be a bit of a tecchie to understand what you can get to see.

Is TV becoming too complicated for the ordinary person?

Yes! I consider myself reasonably up to speed with technology but this has me boggled.

What I'd also like to know is what happens if, like me, you have a broadband connection but no signal through the aerial? A regular freeview/freeview HD box is useless to me because of the lack of signal (hence Virgin Media)

Can I just plug the required freeview HD box into the internet and get Motors or does it also require a regular aerial input?

I've produced three motorsport doco's that aired on Motors; 1986 RAC Rally retrospective (previously un-seen footage), 'Rear View Mirror' (my friend Freddie Barratt, RIP, talking about his home movie films of the 50's and 60's) and a profile of the Lotus 72 F1 car. Motors are ok, but seem to be run on a tight ship, i.e. not too much money for doco's, they seem to spend all their cash on the 'live' stuff.

So new question; what's the cheapest piece of hardware you'd have to buy in order to get motors tv, assuming you have a normal non smart tv.
I would like to know the answer to this too - is there a cheap USB playback device that will stream it - surely the stream could play on a computer if somebody that can get it working could capture the url that is being accessed from their router?

Really annoyed they don't simply offer the stream directly from the motors.tv or arquiva (connect tv) website.

I tried my TVs when it was first enabled in Feb/March. 2 x 2010 SonyTV didnt work and 1 x 2011 SonyTV was receiving but performing badly so I gave up and sulked.

Apparently something on the ConnectTV/Freeview side was changed in early April - Just been and checked them again and all 3 are working perfectly now.

Just in time for WEC @ Silverstone - Brilliant.

So, if I buy one of these boxes from Tesco, and stick an aerial cable in the back, what else do I have to do to make it work?

I notice they mention an ethernet connection, I'm assuming thats for iPlayer etc?

Does this require a freesat dish as my block of flats only has a standard aerial?

If the freeview box requires an internet connection to receive Motors, what if anything does the aerial do? I ask because we have next to no signal from a conventional aerial which is why we have Virgin media. If I buy the correct box/tv am I still stumped without an aerial signal?

Effectively the control to add the channel to the EPG and tell the TV where to get the stream is delivered via the Aerial.

The actual video stream is IP across the internet

Its the Arqiva "ConnectTV" platform being used.
