It does as far as I know. It's an Internet free view channel. You need a smart to with an Internet connection.

If you have a HD receiver and retune then a SD broadcast version (using HD encoding) should appear on channel 71.

If you don't have a HD receiver, then you'll find a version of it around channel 240 that requires an Internet connection and appropriate decoder in your receiver.

I used to be able to view MOTORS TV UK channel through an old Sky+ HD box and dish. Channel 447. (No subscription etc.)
Seems to have disappeared now though.

Sky want me to pay a one off £25 fee for a new 'Freesat Viewing Card'.

I'll give this a go.

I can't see that working. It's not a Freesat channel and I can't see it listed on the 'Freesat from Sky' channel list.

I noticed that too. I had an online chat with a Sky advisor, he assured me it would be available again With the Freesat card) on channel 447
(Got the chat transcript emailed to me too). Hopefully will be fine.

I've seen new Sky Freesat cards on eBay for under a fiver - seem to have lots of positive reviews & money back guarantee. Might chance one of them first!

I just bought a Freeview HD box and similar to others cannot get Channel 71 only 240 which requires internet connection, and you cannot record on internet conn programmes.

I just checked the UK Free TV and seems to be what is carried by your transmitter (mine is Crystal palace / Guildford) but detail isn't clear ie I should be able to get it but do not.

I just bought one of the Freesat cards on ebay for the Skybox as I am also planning a new larger dish in France so this should get me MotorsTV on satellite if that channel 447 is still operational

Any updates would be good
Cheers

Guildford is NOT an extended Freeview HD transmitter so does not get MotorsTV. You will have to check Channels 33 and 35 on the Crystal Palace Transmitter. The Extended Channels which also include BBC 3HD and BBC 4HD are also there.

Motors TV is available on Crystal Palace as long as you have a freeview HD decoder (even though it isn't actually in HD, it uses the HD multiplex). My aerial points to that transmitter and I can confirm that it works on the tv with the freeview HD tuner in it.

Update on this...

I did the online chat thing with Sky.

They offered me a free Sky HD box, £10 installation & £10.75 a month (12 months) for the Original channel package (Inc. Motors channel). So £139 for a year.
They gave me a free £50 prepaid MasterCard and Quidco tracked at £120! So £170 cashback in total.

That means I've got Sky+ (With recording, Sky Go etc), Motors channel, and I'll be £31 up at the end of the year!

biggrin

Aargh. Motors TV has now moved to Freeview channel 240, then you have to press the red button to wait for an app to load and play the channel online, so it needs an internet connection.

I can still get the channel, but this app stuff is a pain in the arse frown .

I came here to post the same frown

Flicked over to MotorsTV earlier on Monday evening and was greeted by the message stating that they were no longer broadcasting on Freeview 71 and had reverted back to the "data" broadcast via an internet stream which only functions on a select number of TV's & boxes like it was before frown

Shame as I finally gained access to it earlier last year when I had a new aerial fitted and was looking forward to the V8 Supercars, etc.

I would imagine it will be down to the cost of paying for a Freview HD slot which, based on info online, isn't cheap especially when it's was a channel with a niche audience and it appears that the broadcast frequency it was on only covered limited areas of the UK.

I am amazed anybody could watch Motors TV for longer than five minutes. It was breathtakingly dreadful and the commentary I heard on some race I'd never heard of was beyond parody. Dire.

Some of their content is at the lower end of the scale, yes, but conversely a lot of what they produce and broadcast is very good.

The trouble is, we are prone to forget around these here parts that outside of Formula One and the BTCC, motor sport doesn't have a a massive following in this country. In fact some of it is pretty bloody niche!

As such you are relying on the energy and passion of the mega-anoraks to get your footage done for as little as possible, because your budget is proportional to your audience - and even with the best production values and commentators your audience for tractor pulling or Irish tarmac rallying (as much as we love it) is never going to be massive. In my view at least its something.

OK- I am in the minority (perhaps?) who are passionate about the sport(club and historic racing , rallying , speed events drag racing etc - but not fking tractors) and spend a lot of time attending events live . But TV motorsport is 2D drivel and ..well..it's just watching the telly .

Yep I struggle to enjoy watching motorsport on TV, it just doesn't have the same feeling. I would rather be stood in the cold rain and wind watching some cars going round in circles all day long cloud9laugh
