Peeps,

Just a heads-up in case anyone is interested, but we'll have a weekend of the Red Bull air racing at Ascot racecourse in mid-August.

More details here: http://www.ascot.co.uk/redbullairracemeeting/red-bull-air-race

Thinking we might go to this on the Sunday as it'd finish off our wedding weekend quite nicely (getting married on the Friday!)

Anyone used the Race Club thingy? Seems very expensive at £250, even if it was as a special occasion treat.

Not having ever set foot inside the racecourse, I would hope that the views from the normal grandstand are going to be pretty good anyway?

The seats in the grandstand are not "allocated", i.e. your ticket wont have a seat number on it. I think a key reason for this is that the planes will be flying whilst racing, so the view will be pretty great from whereever I'd imagine.

I think the extra for club whatever will be for nicer drinks/seats etc, but not sure if you'll get a better view of the racing.

Just booked tickets for the Sunday. Does anyone know how loud these planes are? I'm taking my boy (4.75) and he won't like it if it's too loud. So I was thinking I might need to get him some ear protectors.

The racing planes are not very loud at all, plus they won't be "that" close.

I'm not sure what other stuff will be on display however smile

Anyone know what the rules at Ascot are in terms of taking your own food & drink? i.e. Would they object if I took a picnic and a bottle of wine?

Not sure if the rules are different per event, but we've taken in a picnic (inc beer and wine) to the family race days before.

The building of the "track" has started biggrin

This one of the few bases for the inflatable gates they've already installed. I saw three or four more this morning.

I've emailed them about taking my camera along (some places/events are funny about photography).

Good news is you can take a camera, however food and drink are not allowed:

Email from Ascot Racecourse

"You are not allowed to bring food or drink onsite, but we do have water points in the Grandstand, so if you buy a bottle of water onsite you can fill it up as you need.

It will not be a problem to bring your camera with you. Photography is permitted and due to the flight path all guests are limited to the Grandstand and its immediate vicinity. Unlike many other Red Bull Air Race's the runway is directly in front of the Grandstand so you will be able to view the take-off and landings as well as having great views of the course. There will be several pylons positioned near to the Grandstand on the Heath opposite, along with all the other pylons. There will also be the opportunity to view the pilots and mechanics working on the planes (excuse my lack of aeronautical terminology) at the Airport which is situated at the West end of the Grandstand. I'm sure you'd get some great shots there too!"

Now sold out for Sunday apart from the £250 per ticket hospitality frown

If anybody has any spare general admission tickets for Sunday, I would be happy to buy them off you as I can't afford the £250 ones !

I bought mine off the Red Bull Air Race website in Euros rather than the Ascot site.
