Garg...the first morning session was lost to bad light & rain. The Windies then took it very gently in their first session batting as Anderson had it going round corners and bowling 5 maidens out of 8. Broad managed a similar number of maidens despite not having it on such control.
Be fair.
Be fair.

Turgid. Be fair.
Pitches haven't helped either.
No one will be more pleased than I to see Cook back to smashing centuries for fun and Trott grinding out 300 ball centuries and causing bowler break down as he goes through the whole OCD routine between balls.
Plain truth is though as a sporting spectacle and "entertainment" test cricket can't afford to have its best players in the IPL (WI) and prepare bore draw pitches to avoid negative results. Sure prep the wicket to play to your strengths, but it has to be a contest.
WI average 3 and over, England about the same, so you are right DJ, it isn't bad enough to warrant be called turgid.
As an sporting entertainment though it has left me flaccid.

Gravel - Old Trafford man here!
I find Test cricket fascinating, I find this test fascinating actually. There is a good narrative going on even with a dire patch.
I think the Windies in general would benefit if their groundsmen were encouraged to prepare lightning fast quickie tracks.

I hesitate to suggest that this is quite dull fayre, since I fully understand that Cook needs time in the middle and actually a draw featuring a Cook ton, would be acceptable.
But come on lads, lets have a bit of entertainment. At the rate we are going the only plan would be to bat once, that leaves us around 90 -120 overs tops to score 150 to get to par, and then score another 300 to give us a bowling target.
q.e.d we need to go at 4 not 2.4
Anyway, I know its a test, and I know I am impatient, but lets have a little adventure. 71 from 201 balls. Choosing the highlights isn't going to be difficult.
15-20mins post lunch to adjust yourself and then apply the middle of the bat. I expect Mr Ballance to be the more positive batsman here, Chef will be looking just for the ton. Incidentally I believe Chef is currently on 7 half tons in the last 9 innings and averaging 63. Shocking form!
Scratch that. Chef WAS looking purely at the ton
