The Midnight Run

Hello all,

I've been thinking about organising this for a while now, and when I mentioned it during a meet last year, it seemed to be a popular idea. The main attraction being quiet roads, and hopefully a warm and dry summer evening/night!

The route will be a bit different to our usual drives, in that it won't start and finish at the same place.
The starting point would be Tesco in Wells, Somerset at 11:00 - 11:30PM (Tucker Street, Wells, Somerset, BA5 2DZ), and then head out at Midnight for a drive. Then after taking in some scenic and hopefully quiet roads, the finishing point will be a car park on Weston sea front, next to the Old Colonial Pub, which having checked last weekend at 1am, will be largely empty. But does have residential properties nearby, so please be keep noise to a minimum. The address for your sat nav is: Old Colonial, 30 Knightstone Rd, Weston Super Mare, Avon BS23 2AW. At the end of the route in Weston, we will go past a Tesco petrol station with 24h pumps (pay at pump, card only), for those who need to refuel before heading home.

Please make a note of the finishing postcode, as then you'll be able to meet us at the finishing point if you manage to lose the group!

If you do attend please be courteous to the residences you drive past, as most people will of course be asleep then!

As a side note this is the same weekend as the 2 day Weston Air Festival, air display ( https://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/News/Pages/Flying-hi... ).

Please also note the following, and drive with care please! And of course, obey the speed limits at all times!

Just a heads up in case the routes cross, there's a coast to coast cycle ride finishing in Burnham-on-sea, most should be finished by then (aim is for sunset) but with 205 miles to cover there may be stragglers and they'll be knackered and slow, hopefully I'll not be one of them!
Our route is here http://connect.garmin.com/course/1235599#
Enjoy your drive!
Chances are there will be a few strugglers determined to forge on and complete the ride regardless of time.
~You may encounter oncoming cyclists on the cheddar gorge-mendips stretch, not asking you to not have fun, just look twice before overtaking.
Please add yourself to the list in the post below, and I'll update this one when I can.

Sounds like a good idea.
However i absoultely hate getting a shifty on with dipped beams.
So i will be somewhere back there <--- going really slow.

But as they say, its the taking part that counts.

(and before anyone says anything, i mean even slower than usual wink )

Sounds interesting, I should be able to pop along! Might see if a few people I know are up for it, who will be in more interesting cars than mine laugh

Great idea. Being 2 hours away from me and the weekend after Le Mans I'll probably be broke but I might be up for it if I can afford petrol and I haven't joined the zombie horde.

I'd hold off for now, need to see if I can get the car finished. Don't really fancy it in a Passat or a Golf, want something a bit more special.

That could be done after the midnight run, or maybe as a separate run in itself, as it sounds like a good idea. Although I'm not sure how many people will still be awake by sunrise!

The idea of seeing sunrise is pretty cool, but if you consider most people will still be on a regular sleep cycle, and have to get home, that could end up being an almost 24 hour day, and I'd rather not be at the wheel at that point.

Yeah that's what I was thinking to be honest. It'd be a bit ott to do it all in one hit. But it'd be a good plan for a separate run!
