Perhaps it's on the moon.

With Hitler.

Where's the Daily Sport when you need it?

It may have had rockets strapped to it a la Moonracker setup and gone into orbit....

I'd wager we will never find it anywhere in our lifetimes

Whilst I do not share the esoteric thoughts of WB on the possible (if most improbable) places this plane could now be, I too am very doubtful of the explanations that are being proffered by the authorities. It certainly does seem to be a most unusual case. Why that is I do not know, but I would agree with WB that currently there does seem to be very few explanations of any substance, and very very little actual evidence of where the plane actually lies. It could well be some considerable time before the truth of the affair is known with any certainty and the location of the plane is determined. I do not gamble but I accept that WB may well be correct in his assertion that the plane may not be found for some considerable time. If ever.

I was just about to ask the same thing - I really would hope he is as I'm actually a bit bewildered that anyone could think such a thing were possible.

As I said a long time ago what IF the plane somehow entered space and is currently in orbit?
Near on impossible but its not an impossible scenario and would explain why no debris anywhere ever since it went down
You're joking, right?

Please say you're joking.

I'd say its as plausible as the crazy ideas of it being hidden in the American airbase or that on impact with the ocean it left no debris at all anywhere.

Most likely is the same as that SouthAmerican plane from the 1950's hit the mountain and the avelanche covered it deep give it 60 years and it will pop out the end of the glacier.

I loved the thought that ISIS had it and were going to use it for terror or China shot it down etc etc.

I wonder how many Airliners have been seen flying very low over the Maldives, towards Diego Garcia, since the one seen by numerous witnesses hours after the disappearance? Just asking....

Ch5 HD 8pm tonight a documentary on this - one year on.

March 2014 239 passengers and crew vanishes without a trace. A unique event we've never seen it before.

12 months on.

Its not a game changer its a world changer - it entered space smile

IIRC it was a cargo plane on its regular flight...

Excellent, now we know NASA wasted all that time and money developing the Saturn 5, when any old Boeing 707 would have done the job.

This thread is 364 days old, and 360 odd pages long.

And no one knows where this plane is. No one.

no and I can't find it now, why would it have to be coincidence? There are 10 airports on Maldives with lot of flights coming in every day.

What if it went North not south? This could explain no debris in the oceans anywhere a year of searching.
Could have come down into the mountains and covered in deep snow replicating a similar plane accident 1950's.

All that jazz

All Vietnam and Thailand airspace over land is under radar coverage, so no.

What if it never took off, a big insurance scam.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the anniversary date a rerun of the possible explanations by the Malasian Government abound in the news this morning

see: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-31777060

In reality it would seem to me that until some real physical evidence of where the plane actually lies appears, there is as yet nothing concrete on what actually happened. Tragic accident of some sort seems the most probable explanation to me. But what actually happened we are really no nearer identifying. Desperate situation for all the relatives who lack real closure. Desperate tragedy for all those killed.

As ever, what seems to me to be, the least unlikely explanation gets my vote, which is some form of accident rendering the crew and passengers unconsious. But until real physical evidence is found this remains an unsolved mystery.
