That is so bad I can't even picture it confused

I just wouldn't play, I'd go home.

Carts are another curse and a big part of the problem.

Nobody in a cart ever thought they were playing slow golf. Even further from their consideration is the possibility that someone on foot could be playing any faster.

"How can I be slow, I can do 25mph?"

Yes, but you're covering more mileage walking sideways than you'd otherwise be walking up the jeffing fairway. Not to mention the sip of water, the check of the course map, the retying of the laces and all the politeness bks of sharing a cart.

"shall I take a wedge and putter with me? What about a 7 iron in case it's just a bumper. Hmm. Better take both. What to you think tony?....."

Buggies really don't help you're right, they are also detrimental to ones game I find.

Climb out of cart, walk 15 yards over to ball. Duff ball 30 yards up the fairway.

Now you can watch them deal with this unique agony - not only have they reminded themselves how awful they are at golf, which is hard to take for any of us - they now need to choose whether to trudge 15 yards back to the cart, to drive it 30 yards, and trudge 15 yards back to their ball, or whether to just walk up to the ball, top it again, and have to walk backwards 30 yards to fetch their marooned buggy.

This decision takes ages. You can see them working it out.

They aren't thinking about their golf, nor are they having a good time. They are totally consumed by Buggy Logistics.

And I hate them. There, I said it.

Yes, but nobody listens to them, they are mainly Filipinos.

Those golfers that are slow and st also have God complexes and won't take instructions from them, it's just the class/race system that exists out here at work.

The problem with the courses here are they aren't designed to be walked, you can have anywhere up to say 300-400 yards sometimes to the next tee, plus again, golfers here expect carts.

I dream of the twilight 4 balls we used to play after work in England during the summer, round in 3 and a half hours without even rushing.

Likewise, golfing in Dubai is superb, but I would find my enjoyment of it marred by lots of waiting. Especially given how expensive it is.

The summertime after-work-quick-9-home-for-seven is one of life's true pleasures.

Has anyone had a decent hit of the Ping G25 driver or fairway woods? I'm looking to get fitted for a driver over the winter and maybe pick up a new 3-wood or 4-wood too.

Does anyone have any thoughts on these clubs? Has anyone compare it to the G30?

Just for reference I've only really started playing properly this year and have gone from high twenties to low twenties over the last few months. Plan is for mid teens by this time next year with low teens the year after.

I've just bought the G25 driver, 3 wood and 20 degree hybrid.

I absolutely love the 3 wood and hybrid, so easy to hit it feels like I'm cheating!

Driver is a work in progress - I can hit some blinders followed by some howlers!! Although I'm sure this is me and not the club.

I'm very pleased with them all smile

Had a G25 driver since the start of the season. Love the thing. Its not the longest driver but its really forgiving. Which personally for a driver is the biggest thing I look for.
Tried a G30, felt just as nice and hit it about the same distance (10yrds longer with g30). IMO its not worth the extra money unless your clubs are already out of date and you hang onto clubs longer than a season.
I swear by ping woods, the absolute best on the market. I play G25 driver, i20 5 wood and a i20 hybrid.

Thanks for the comments. I'm looking forward to see what they suggest. I haven't been playing with a driver at all so have no idea what loft or shaft I should be getting.

If you don't mind me asking what hcp are you?

As a side note, I didn't realise that when calculating a handicap you are only 'allowed' to score a maximum of 2 over par on any one hole. I has assumed it was purely the average difference between your gross score and the SSS of the course. I imagine my hcp is probably 4-6 shots lower than I thought.

Very realistic goal...good luck with it! Hopefully you can even reach those magical single digits with a bit of hard work!

Officially I'm 17.3, but I seem to have had some poor results at my home club recently.

Although my home club is a pretty tough links course, a lot of people I speak to say you can take off 3 shots from my club handicap. Which actually works out right as when playing in my society I have actually played to 14 (I played off 16 last week and scored 32 points with 4 blobs).

The last comp I played at my home club I only scored 25 points - but I did blob 7 holes hehe

Pick up the new putter today after trying my mates last week - I think its going to be a game changer

It is the Odyssey Fang no.7 with counterbalance weights - 38inch.

I couldn't believe how it made me control the putter head with the extra weight in the top of the grip.

Its the way forward ( for me anyway) I am a 34inch normally but the extra 4 inches is above yours hands and this is where the counterbalance weight is. I have a selection of weights to choose from that I can place in the head or top of the grip, this then alters the head weight. With me it instantly improves my take way and twitchiness!

Well, the Sealskinz were worn on Friday in my first round I've ever played in heavy rain. Wow, they are absolutely fantastic!

However, as if this game wasn't hard enough, I found it much harder in the rain. So much so, we left after 12 holes I'm ashamed to say. My biggest problem was my clubs were slipping out of my hands and my head was soaking with rain spraying into my face.

Have now ordered some Macwet gloves to hopefully cure the club slipping. They seem to come highly regarded.

I also have an interview at the club I've been having the odd lesson at next Tuesday. I'm slightly nervous about joining a club where I have no friends, hopefully I'll make some good golfing mates from it though.

Any rules expert on this tread……

Played our first winter league match yesterday, a situation arose when I played my second shot on a long par four, the ball came to rest on the temporary green for that hole, now when I play with my mates we say lift and drop the ball off the temporary green if the temporary green is not in play, i.e. we are using the proper greens, anyhow we agreed that I should play the ball as it lies.

Was the action correct or should I have lifted the ball and dropped off the temporary green?

Absent a specific local rule, I'd think temporary greens are to be treated like any other normal part of the course. Play the ball as it lies.

(up to you if you want to risk taking a huge divot!)
