Ferrari f50 , tyre choice
Discussion
Just popped into the garage to check what's on mine. Then remembered it's down at Macaris for a service.. I'm pretty sure you have Hobson's choice on Pirelli PZero; Michelin don't make a suitable tyre. I've never tried slicks, but I do recall seeing photos of a silver F50 with a set of wheels with slicks on them, so they must have been/be available.

Yours has Pirellis on the rear. I was at Macaris last week and saw the car there. Remember it from the local Herts meet last year, and the fabulous sound when leaving! Interestingly though, 2 other F50 they had in both had different rubber on the rear, so assume it is down owners preference and what they do with the car.

It's on Pirellis all round Chris. If there are other cars on different (new) rubber and the original wheels I'll check back with Andrew Gill to see if Michelin makes one now. I really don't like Pirelli; I've had PZeros on multiple cars and they're fine for the first couple of thousand miles then the grip really drops off. It's about due a tyre change anyway. Interesting this pops up now since I put Michelins on mine last week. Don't know if I was wrongly informed before, but this time around there was a Michelin available. Tyres are PS2.

Can't tell you what they're like yet- simply too much salt around for my liking

For me it's a brand choice more than something specific to the 50. Pirelli have been oem on the Ferraris I've had and while they were fine when brand new, the grip became unpredictable after that; pretty much every (unintended) sideways moment I've ever had has been on Pirellis. A few years ago I thought this was just me being hopeless, but it went away when I swapped across to Michelin. I've always found Michelin to be more consistent and predictable, whatever the car or driving conditions. The most recent was changing the oem Pirellis for Michelin Pilot supersports on the Audi; you can really tell the difference- more grip, better feel and much more predictable.
In the end this could be just me! Whatever, I now have a preference and stick by it, though reading this post back, it does sound massively geekish..

Not geeky at all, very helpful actually. I agree with your point about Pilots. I have them on the others and they're excellent.
New addition, yes. Pulled the trigger yesterday. The car sits on its original Goodyears so will be changed. I googled the subject and this thread came up in the results.
