Well it's the right continent and I guess the distance out is in the hundreds and not the thousands of miles.

I think the Ohio plate in the foreground of the first pic is a red herring, as most of the others look like Ontario plates. In which case I'd say it's either the old part of Toronto or somewhere in the Niagara region.

Visited there on a roadtrip holiday a few years ago. The difference between Niagara and Niagara on the Lake is stark. Ok, where is this?

It is German, although I wouldn't say it was typically German, it is typical of an era throughout Europe.
