Me too, but tanneries don't need heat AIUI, and the chimmneys are wrong for kilns. Intriguing.

Are they brick/tileworks by any chance? I'm thinking clay, chimmney shape's OK, so have we been thrown a curve-ball and we're in UK somewhere in the Midlands?
