Has anyone used this new clutch from Racing Green? £150 cheaper than a standard AP but according to the blurb it's stronger, and much improved. Trouble I'm having is the AP, flawed as it may be, is at least a known quantity. Anyone know what sort of development the Helix clutch has gone through and does anyone have any first hand experience of it?

Is the AP flawed though?

No idea about this new clutch but I would need some serious persuasion to consider changing.

I would be careful. I bought a Helix clutch that was specced for 500lbft in my Chimaera and although mine actually made closer to 550lbft it was toast so I dont believe they can handle the power quoted. I switched back to AP.

Ive driven the Tuscan demonstrator with this clutch and was really impressed with the way the car drove with it. Was very smooth.

You may have had problems with a Helix clutch but I know from discussing it with the chaps there, they have spent a fair amount of time developing the unit for use with speed six TVR's, its not been plucked off the shelf and fitted. Additionally it comes with a 2 year warranty.

I'm in the process of rebuilding my speed six and have ordered one of these.

Now I'd be VERY interested to hear about this as I'm on my 2nd clutch in 2 years/20000 miles!

It could potentially reduce your clutch bill as the friction plates will be available separately. In addition I believe the springs pressed up against the flywheel will be wider, thus reducing the surface pressure on the flywheel, which will result in them not cutting into the flywheel.

Can post a pic of my flywheel with this damage as I have mine apart at the moment if you are interested.

What an odd post. You bought a clutch rated for 500lbft, put 550lbft through it, it broke and now you wouldn't recommend it?

You either have an alignment problem or partake in a lot of traffic light Grand Prix driving

Sorry that was worded incorrect it started slipped at about 480lbft then when we finished the mapping it was 550lbft just thought if it was rated at 500lbft it would take abit more especially in such a lightish car.

Bullet bitten! An RG Helix clutch has been ordered and I'll test it along with my rebuilt box and Power lightweight fly in a couple of weeks smile
Saves a chunk of cash over the AP clutch, if it turns out to not be right then I guess it'll be a good test of RGs warranty process...

Clutch on my Tuscan Failed this weekend and now with Dan Taylor for repair. Have gone for the Racing Green Helix option as previous OE clutch done less than 10k miles. Having new flywheel too so hopefully new set up will last a lot longer!

new Racing Green Helix clutch fitted along with lightweight flywheel and alloy slave cylinder. Initial impressions on the drive home from Dan Taylor in Kent are good! Clutch feels slightly firmer but more precise. Thanks to Dan for getting her fixed in time for trip to Le Mans Classic!

Anyone have anymore info/updates on this please ? Have my 02 Tuscan S in now for new clutch/slave and flywheel and am tempted by the helix clutch and 'super light' flywheel ??

After posting on another forum i was told the super light flywheel will be a little contentious at times as its very easy to stall, needs alot of revs to move and so can be easy to wheelspin or bog down off the start. Traffic will not be pleasant move in to say the least and low speed maneuvering will be tough but personally the plan is to get on track so might suit me fine.. but I would like to hear from someone who has this fitted and is already putting down some serious milage to put it to the test !!

Any info is appreciated as i am about ready to order parts biggrin

Can't say something about the helix clutch, but had a new AP clutch + lightened flywheel last year. made around 7000 miles since then. The only difference to the normal flywheel is the better rev up. Engine feels a bit more free when accelerating. But not as much as some say ;-)
I can't confirm all the negatives. Stalling is not a problem, nor is traffic.
