Oh dear.

I've hear remote controlled boats down the lake that sound more powerful. Those Citroen Saxos the kids drive around the town sound more tasty than these. What a load of rubbish!

But rather than the usual PH rant thread where people argue about whether the new cars sound good or not, how about a thread of insulting metaphor for what these new F1 cars sound like?

I like the new noise. I'd wager it'll sound better in the flesh too (the old angry wasp V8s' did, if a bit too loud).

Loving the new F1 so far.

Amateur trackside footage sounds much better, I think FOM need to upgrade their mics as they still seem to be set up for very loud V8s.

For what it's worth I like being able to hear tyre squeal, turbo whooshing, crowd noise etc, makes it seem a bit more real, in my opinion.

Like an adolescent water buffalo, farting under water.

Or, more like a Ducati Superbike from the onboard?

I was all like it crap it's crap, but it actually adds to the watching experience for me now having watched a few practices and now qualifying ,

Being able to hear the tyres and the crowds are a bonus too, looking forward to the season ahead

I like them.

You can have a conversation in the pit lane when they are warming them up, you can hear tyres locking, fans, etc. Plus they also sound like piston engines rather than jets engines, and the removal of blown diffusers means they sound lovely on down changes rather sounding like something horribly expensive has gone wrong!

No, no, no, you're all wrong.

Remember the comments from the "experts" on here over the past 18 months:

It's just the dyno that makes them sound crap, when they're actually in a car, on the track, they will sound AMAZING; completely different!

Oh hang on.....whistle

Agree they sound crappy but thank your lucky stars they are not 4 pots like the FIA originally suggested but Bernie vetoed, any engine blowing through a turbo will be quiet. F1 goes PC!!

Ooosh!
That could be the best description for the noise yet, explains it very well I feel.
I was working with 'sounds like a knackered hoover on a deep shag' but Burman has clearly nailed it.
Bravo!

It took me a while to get over the 'shock' of the relative quietness, but then......

The small snippets of sounds we got from the testing sounded better/louder than the TV feed we are getting now.. Maybe FOM muffled the mic's over the years to protect us from the V8 shriek and work properly?? And they need to be unmuffled now for us to enjoy them...

They sounded OK to me, just not loud enough. Pity Suzi Perry doesn't have a volume control; I'd set it permanently at zero.
