Is anybody playing this? Free to play and wonderfully addictive smile

I did use the search to see if I could find a thread but I didn't see one.

Yup! It's extremely good smile
I'm rank 17 at the moment, and mainly playing as a mage.

Started over the weekend after watching far too much of Totalbiscuits arena series. Trying to resist purchasing booster packs.

Yeah. I'm playing this. Got my first legendary over the weekend in the form of Edwin VanCleef...

Which is fortunate as I like playing Rogue.

Massan is a good caster to watch.

Don't do it, it removes the value of getting them for free and the satisfaction of getting them after an arena win smile

If you haven't already, set up a hunter deck comprised of his special cards and beasts, one of the most fun ways I have found to play.

Starting to feel like I know what i'm doing in the game now, and that i'm making informed choices, rather than randomly playing cards because they are pretty. wink
Still not winning quite as often as I would like, but at least I know why i'm losing. smile

I also watched a few of the Trump videos on youtube, he is a very good player.

Since watching a couple of videos, what I did was start with the agreed best basic deck for the mage class, and then modified it based on the cards I had unlocked and thought I wanted in the deck. So starting off "cheating" by copying a known good deck, but quickly moved away from the standard deck.
I've concentrated on three decks to learn properly for constructed, mage, warrior and rogue. But in the arena I typically choose a class I don't know at all well, as that makes for fun games!

I've based my mage deck around the one that Trump built in his video, it's a good deck.
There are a couple of things i've learnt that I think have let me make a bit of a step change in performance.

1) Build your decks based on the big combos that you want to work towards.
2) The first draw can be key, throw away everything that is above a 4, and in most cases I throw everything above a 3.
3) Wait, and keep waiting. If you have tactical cards in your deck, then they are there for a reason, don't spend your mana lightly.

There are some cards that are just better than others though, the azure drake for example. A 4/4 card for 5 mana, with +1 spell and card draw? It's pretty much a no brainer to have that in your deck. Or the harvest golem, 3 mana for a 2/3 and a 2/1? It's a fantastic 2nd round card when used with the coin.

Only the extras so far. I've crafted the Harvest Golem, but that's it.

I recommend having a squint at some of the cards that can be enchanted for small amounts of blue stuff, some of them are excellent.

Yeah, I kinda know what i'm going for, but I have a strong enough mage deck for now, the cards that will really bolster it are expensive. I'll post my deck when I get a chance.

Tried this a few times over the weekend, is there any matchmaking in it or is it all vs all? I did OK against people with similar cards to me, but most games just ended up with me losing to a flurry of cards that I don't have access to. It got to the point where if someone would play a 'deal 2 damage to all minions and hero' type card I'd just concede the game.

Casual is random, ranked mode is you against people at the same level as you, but that isn't to say they will have the same level of deck. At the start of a season you will get killed by the good players working their way back up the ranks. After that though it settles down.
Cards do make a difference, but a good player with the free basic card set can beat an average player with a legendary deck.

Once you get to level 10 you will have the basic set for that class.

Nope, no real matchmaking, though you can play ranked to play people of a similar ability level to you.

In all honesty though I imagine that starting to play the game now will be a little disadvantageous at the moment as others have had a head start but you just have to persevere a little and play through it and your card will come together. It took me a little while to get in to it.

It takes a lot of time to get to know what classes can do to you at various points in the game.

Also learning the classes various "secret" spells is very important.

Shaman, Priest, Warrior and Rogue seem to have the highest burst potential so be wary of them.
Warlock is a lot of fun but not as strong as the other decks.
Mage is safe.
Hunter is aggressive.
Paladin is such a griefers paradise.
Druid is very adaptive to however you want to play.

Do I need to fire up one of my WOW accounts again to play?

Unfortunately, Battle.net is required frown

But you don't have to have an active WoW account, just a free Battle.net account.
