Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost 125

Morning all,
Does anyone have a Fiesta Ecoboost by any chance?
Looking at the 125 5dr Titanium X to replace a DS3 115 DSport Diesel (which, by the way is a fantastic car). We just fancy a change and something more practical.
Now, we've driven the Fiesta on a short test drive but I'm after some more personal experiences.
- What is economy like on an average month (mix of dual carriage way and city)
- How practical is it? Does it lack grunt with 4 people up?
- Build quality?
- Reliability?
Are there any other cars that we should consider?

I've owned my 1.0 125bhp Fiesta Zetec S for a year now..
On a long motorway run, I filled the tank in Godstone and didn't have to visit another petrol station until I got to Glasgow. Even then the display still showed 100miles to empty...
If you start to give it the beans, the MPG falls a bit, but to get a reading under 40mpg takes a bit of work!
With regards to monthly costs, I drive 88 Miles a day to Brighton from Kent. The tank costs roughly £47 - £52 to fill, depending on how low you go, & I can do the whole weeks commute on one tank easily.
Performance isn't 'quick' but the off-key note from the 3cyclinder block and fantastic handling make up for it. If the grunt really does bother you, Mountune will take £375.00 of your cash and boost the power to 135BHP without invalidating your warranty. Pumaspeed will take about two-grand off you for nearly 200BHP but that of course means no more warranty.
However, this car is in no way perfect...
Since day one, the cabin has rattled like a 16th Century Galleon.
The gearknob insert fell out after a few months, cutting my hand.
The paint is extremely thin and therefore doesn't stand up well to motorway miles.
The headlamps are useless.
A patch of paintwork about 8cm in diameter has fallen off.
The Ford 'Sync' head unit crashes on a daily basis.
All in all, a brilliant engine, a brilliant chassis, blighted by poor build quality & customer service.
(saying that all the reviews of the ST fail to mention any build quality issues, so maybe my particular car was built on a friday afternoon)

Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it. I've taken a risk and ordered the Titanium X 125 to replace the DS3. The DS3 has some real guts in the engine (same engine as the Mini Cooper SD?) and pulls from low down, so I think it might be a different driving experience.
The car is for the Mrs and I think she'll appreciate the practicality of a 5dr more than the 3dr DS3, but wont be a fan of revving the poop out of the engine.

My comments about customer service are to be taken with a pinch of salt by the way, The 'network' of dealerships I bought my car off have been effing useless, however I visited another Ford Dealer down on the Sussex Coast and they were very helpful.

Drove one myself today in zetec s form. As above good handling but the engine, although responsive, surprisingly sluggish to build speed even with 125bhp.
refined though, so depends what you're looking for.
Me? Im off to test drive something hopefully more exciting in the form of a swift sport!

In contrast to this, mine has been absolutely tip-top. I'm inclined to agree about the depth of the paint but apart from that mine has been and still is as solid as a rock. The gearknob insert fell out after a few months, cutting my hand.

I'd also consider the VAG group's 1.2 TSI - only 105bhp but really punches we'll above its weight - I test drove a fabia Monte Carlo and was very impressed by it - got 45mpg out of it too and I drove the nuts off it - take it ease and 50+ mpg becomes a reality

I went to one dealer, he gave me a brochure but couldn't offer a test drive, so went to another, got a test drive and another brochure too. When I got back and compared them, they were totally different! Different colours, spec etc - quite strange.
So, the 2014MY Titanium X has the reversing camera, folding mirrors with puddles lights and rear parking sensors as standard, along with some different materials in the cabin. Should be good and very well specced when it arrives but I am conscious about the Sync unit as I've heard some big problems with it.
My parents drive a focus with the 100bhp ecoboost engine (so quite a bit slower!) and it's very nice to drive but definately not made to be sporty in any way. The throttle response is very slow and the flywheel must be massive, because the revs drop sooo slowly. It does sound nice and once on boost seems to be very lineair in it's power delivery.
I have had my 125 Zetec S for just over a year now. Given the engine size, I find the performance surprisingly good and the handling is very good indeed. It is a humbler car than many I have owned, but it ranks among my favourites.
I do quite a few short trips in mine (it is used mainly for commuting and ferrying the kids locally), but I do drive enthusiastically when conditions allow. It is currently averaging 41mpg according to the computer.
Whilst you might think the car is best suited to towns or B Roads, it can more than hold its own on the motorway, where the flexibility of the engine makes joining a major road or overtaking a doddle.
The engine can sound gruff at idle, but on the run it has a nice warble, not unlike a V6's timbre (abeit at a higher pitch).
I did have the problem with Synch crashing. Pulling the fuse solves it for a while, but then it comes back. I mentioned it at the recent service and Ford updated the software. Since then, the problem has not recurred. Aside from that, I have had no quality problems of any kind. There are no trim rattles at all (in sharp contrast to the BMW 135i that I had before), nothing has loosened and everything works as it should.
I know this is all too late for the OP, but hopefully will assist others looking at the same car.

I ordered a 2014 MY Titanium X last month for the Mrs. I was told by the dealers the reversing camera is no longer fitted on the Titanium X? with Nav, even though it says so in the brochure. But I was also told June delivery and its already on the boat, so should be here next week - then I will know for sure. I'll echo some of the above points about quality etc. The missus is swapping her fista for volvo V40 in the middle of next month. (Same spec not engine) and the quality difference is like night and day, now I know it's hardly like for like but but its her first and last ford. It rattles to buggery. Glove box, A pillar,very loud climate control and the worse is the sodding parcel shelf, that thing is grating to say the least. Now before anyone says its a duff one, we have been in 3-4, others (friends, family and loaner) and they have all had very similar groans and sqeaks. Esp the climate
My mums was bought from new. Its a year old and has several rattles. Ford even had to replace something behind the centre console that was loudly whirring away.
Not built to last perhaps, but a nice place to sit. Certainly looks and feels well made for the most part. Even if underneath its not.
