Hi Guys. Have just done a pre MOT check on my car and found both rear shocks have started to leak again. Had them rebuilt around 2 years ago so only about 3000 miles on them. Has anyone changed theirs recently for a different set up?. I like the road ride of the originals so am looking for similar for sensible money.
Any ideas? Many thanks

Hi James. Yes they are still your old ones and this is the second time they have leaked so black art have not given me much confidence in there work. Will most probably go down the road of new ones as they look a bit scruffy anyway.

I've gone for a full set and new springs of 3 ways with remote reservoir from Black Art as my M400 shocks have finally given up the ghost after BA rebuilt them for the third time, all to a certain Lee's spec.

Not cheap, but should be the dogs danglies.

If anyone wants details give me a shout.

I had my front Bilsteins refurbished by Bilstein in Leicester a few years back , through Jetstream .

Typical, 17 days before the first race, I decide to look at my suspension to find the front dynamics shocks are fked again, front left is a tad low but the front right is sat on the bump stops, I'll bet this is why my anti-roll bar snapped at Donington, my power steering wasn't happy and my front tyres were both detonating the inside of the wheel arches. Grrrr!

Just measuring up the car now to have these Black Art Designs guys sort me out with something bespoke to the car. It was just yesterday I was saying to someone how good my dynamics had been.

Did you do all the measuring on the spreadsheet Steve? I've taken all the wishbone pivot point and ball joint heights and distances from car centre. Wheel rim heights and crank height. Just looking for one or two bits like the spring ratio and roll bar ratio measurements to save me time as I'm guessing when I ask these guys tomorrow to make a set in less than 2 weeks, they will fall off their chairs. Lol

as all my wishbones are off its impossible for me to start measuring unfortunately.. I don't know if Kev has done any yet as he has the spreadsheet too... John is a miracle worker so it might be possible in that timescale..

Don't worry about it, it was just incase you had them handy, I'll get the last of the measurements tomorrow but I have enough for them to make a start on something

You got the pipes yet?

Dumb question here from Graham's comments above; do leaking dampers affect the ride height, I'd always assumed it was just the springs? Reason for question is that I've recently been struggling to get my jack under the car when previously fine and have been wondering about the cause but hadn't got round to checking properly.

I don't see why lack of damping would effect ride height , I'm guessing Graham's spring have decided enough is enough !!! . When you take the springs off a Protech the damper rod stays in the same position does not extend .

Hi Rob, leaky dampers will not themselves cause the car to drop as the spring will hold it up.

in the past my shocks have leaked, oily fluid all around the base of the shock and lower wishbone but the ride height has stayed normal. This time they are both totally dry, so I suspect the valve is knackered and it's not letting fluid return to right side of the chamber so it can rebound and raise again (I've had this on my downhill bike rear coil over shock) , and it's stuck down on its knees, springs are all fine, less than a year old, Normally because can't withstand the heat of 40 minutes pelting round a track or the high shock loading when I take lots of curb.

Sounds like your spring adjusters have come loose rather than the actual shock being faulty confused

Haha, honestly Kev, springs look fine, adjusters are at the same position I set them at, no damage to the C-collar, no damage to threads, no oil leaked out.

Just sat right down through its travel

Have you checked the ride height on both sides? If they are different then personally l would thought it's adjustment, otherwise pop the damper off remove the spring & check the damper isn't seized.
On your last outing was it bouncing on the front ?
