Obviously I'm on PH via a tablet/pc.
That's about as far advanced as I get.
I hate face book, twitter. Face time?
Online banking? Online wking maybe ok.
I dont Skype except at work.
I don't register anything unless I can't avoid it.
Never purchase online.
Never subscribe.
Anyone else as pissed off with technology as me?
My phone has unlimited data, but I use it for text and phone calls.
I like pubs, clubs, and restaurants.
I like real stuff.
I like sex with real women not porn.
I like fast cars and bikes, not video games.
Anyone else?

When you've posted thousands of times on an internet forum over a period of 12 years I really don't think you class as a technophobe?

That was my first thought also.

It's up there with Two Jags claiming he is anorexic.

btw - Anyone else notice the contradiction in the OP's post.
Clue - woman and gratification.

You say you like sex with real women not porn, but before that you said 'online wking maybe'....

I've got an iMac, don't know how to use it bar stuff like this

My camera cost 30 quid and I don't know how to set it up

My mobile phone makes calls and nothing else

I bought a printer but threw it away because it turned me suicidal

I don't know what Twitter is

Or facebook, but I hear a lot about it

I don't know how to put preset stations into the wireless in my car

I use printed maps for directions

I think I'd like an ipod but I'd need the songs already on it

A tv technician had to tune my telly in

I'm not proud of this but my life's simple and I quite like that.

Not technophobe as such, but I certainly don't need the most up to date stuff if my current kit does the job.

I don't have a smart phone (I may end up inheriting my gf's iPhone 3 but that means I need a micro SIM).
My PC is old (Pentium 4 3.0GHz) and runs XP but since I don't play games it does the job.
My laptop is old (Celeron), second hand off the gf after she bought a new one (I fixed the old one)
I have a Hudl (Tesco tablet) as it was a gift.
I have a Kindle I rarely use (prefer proper books).
My mp3 player is an old skool 8GB non brand from Argos which is missing the battery cover but works.
I have a 'basic' TomTom (Euro) which works very well

(Basically I'm tight!)

However, I'm always on the internet (would rather browse than watch TV), you can learn a lot forum browsing - the wealth of information out there and potential for education/learning is absolutely staggering.

I buy plenty of stuff online via eBay, Amazon etc as well as online banking, paypal etc.

I don't use Twitter as I see no use for it (for me). I occasionally use Facebook for keeping in contact with friends and sharing photos.

Most of the things described seem to just be an ignorance of technology, rather than a phobia.

Dont think too deeply on the rhyming words. It was ironic but having to explain kind of spoils it. Thanks.. Yes I know I've been here a long time but that's as far as it goes. Like it said in the original post, I'm on PH and that's about as far my technology reaches. Sheesh why is it so hard to write anything on a forum without people nit picking? Even more reason for me disliking technology. I think I could have explained better down the pub after a few pints. Anyone up for a beer...? OK only me then.

This thread is like going to the top of the Empire State Building to ask anyone if they're acrophobic too.

Hi Herts,

My initial impression was:
I admit I spend too much time on here that is healthy. But your post/ age count is impressive.
It doesn't gel with not getting on with technology.

I don't do the social media stuff etc. too.

But; good news.... you are not a technophobe. smile

That's the same for me. I haven't got the hang of anything on a computer apart from basic keyboard and mouse functions and I actively go out of my way to avoid having to use my portable 'phone.

If not being on Facebook or twitter, not owning a smartphone, an X box or an iPod makes one a technophobe, I suppose I have to plead guilty.

This is certainly not nit picking, you have just posted something quite bizarre.

"I only skype at work", "Never register anything", "Never subscribe"

What do those things even mean? I have never heard of those them, and I am by no means a 'technophobe'.

I guess I am more nerdy than I wish. I had to join Skype as we have a multinational team! But I never use my real name or ID unless forced to. My colleagues are into everything new for the sake of it. 4g when 3g is okay. Seems way out of control now. Everything is online and nothing is sacred.

Not a technophobe as such but I'm definitely out of touch with "it" all now.
I used to know all the phones, computers, TVs and everything but now I don't know where to start.

I've got an iPhone 5c because I like the colour and a PS4 because I enjoy going online and slaughtering children's dreams. Everything else technological I own is at least 4 years old, some of it is getting a bit slow now but it still works for what I want.

Doesn't sound like technophobia to me - fear of technology and yet using a computer to access an internet forum?

It doesn't have to be either/or, as the OP nicely demonstrates while seemingly trying to show otherwise. Some people take it too far, but most just use technology as labour/time-saving devices.

You have a good point.. What's the word for someone who uses technology reluctantly?
