Hey guys

So not sure if you've seen this phone, it is utterly stunning: Ultra-HD screen (2560x1440!) 5.5" IPS screen with Gorilla Glass 3, 13mp Sony rear camera which can take 50mp photos! (google it to see some examples - looks really, really good), 4k video etc, wide angle 5mp front camera, Snapdragon 801 SOC, fast charge which will charge it to 75% in half an hour, 3000MaH removable battery, SD card slot, beautiful design (check out the cool pulsing blue notification light on it) and very high build quality, this thing has the lot.

The only real negatives are that it will only be Android 4.3 when released (they are working on KitKat now) and that no UK providers are stocking it so you have to buy it outright. Price hasn't been released yet, but it will be between £400 and £500 I think.

50mp Super Zoom example:

Oppo are well known for delivering high quality products at excellent prices. I really, really want one of these babies!

Anyone else like the look?

I'm about to be in the market for a high-end Android phone so this looks interesting... My only concern would be the support should there be a hardware issue requiring work under warranty. What's Oppo's presence in the UK like, if any?

I'm currently waiting to see what the confirmed specs on the new HTC One are, and the Sony Xperia Z2 is on my list as well. The one thing that HTC seem to be getting right is built-in sound; the Find 7, Z2 and Samsung S5 appear to have mono speakers (and in the case of the S5 and Find 7, they're on the back). The HTC has stereo front-facing speakers, right where you want them. I've become increasingly annoyed at the cruddy sound of my One X, it can actually be painful at times so the performance of the speakers is important to me.

Theres a place in london who is an official reseller and they have a shop online which can deal with returns. Oppo have a very good rep - they have been selling other electronics like Bluray players for years.

I'm tempted to save up and just buy one. It looks so much better than anything else so far this year.

ETA: Funk, the Z2 has stereo speakers on it at each end. Also, the Oppo Find 5 had very good sound, even though it was mono.

Spookily I see you're also a Sussexonian! If you do get one, what's the chances of meeting up and having a look? Would very much like to see/hear one before chucking lots of money at one.

I'm aware of Oppo's reputation (there's a legendary article about a review of a $3,500 Lexicon blu-ray player by some hyped-up reviewer where he opined about of marvellous it was and what a fantastic player it was.....only for it to be revealed that all Lexicon had done was to - literally - make a chassis and then drop a $500 Oppo in it, lock, stock and barrel! The reviewer STILL insisted that the Lexicon was better, despite there being no way at all that it could be!

Found the link: http://www.audioholics.com/blu-ray-and-dvd-player-...

Here's the review where the reviewer gets mauled in the comments: http://hometheaterreview.com/lexicon-bd-30-univers...

He comes out looking like a total dick, and rightly so.

Sorry, back to phones! biggrin

The phone looks really good but it doesn't have a 50mp camera but a Sony 13mp one and does some software trickery to upscale it AFAIK.

That's all very well but I can't see an Apple logo anywhere.

How does the build quality compare to an established brand?

I was looking at huawei when they launched the p6, on paper it was a beast but it wasn't long before they were overheating and going pop. I wouldn't expect terminal failure from sony, samsung, apple.

Did you read what I posted? That's exactly what I said.

Funk, yes be most happy to show you if I get one. It's just if I can be assessed to save up instead of simply walking into the o2 store to get a Z2 or S5. If O2 stocked it I would definitely get one.

Well, nobody can tell yet but traditionally their phones have been really well put together.

I really like the look of this! If I hadn't just had a new phone, I would be looking into it.

A BlackBerry Z10, of all things. The others I narrowed it down to were the Sony Z1 Compact and the Galaxy S4.

I'm seriously considering a Z1 Compact as well!

Why on earth does a 5.5" screen need such a high pixel count!? I can hardly see the pixels on my 1920*1080 50" plasma when my nose is pressed up against it! smile

Sorry, just looked at the photo with the 50mp label.

I own a Find 5 (predecessor to the Find 7) .
IME

Pro:
  • Amazing customer support
  • Very, very well built device. Best I've seen in "plastic" (the material deserves a better description though)
  • Amazing screen, as many reviewers a year ago said: best screen on the market
  • Sound that came out of the speaker was only bested by the HTC boom sound. Very loud and crisp.
  • Very easy to root/install custom rom
  • Real eye catcher, everyone enquires about it and no-one has seen one (if that's your thing) reactions were praising all round
Con:
  • CPU wasn't the best available at the moment, and there was the occasional stutter. Find 7 does have the latest CPU though so should fly through
  • Updates were there and fairly fast but not as much & as good as promised
  • Skin (aka ColorROM) wasn't to my liking at all, though easily fixed with another launcher
  • Camera was good but nothing to write home about, esp low light was avarage.

My thoughts on the F7:
Pro:
  • Looks like the screen will be amazing
  • Same for camera
  • Will prob have great build quality
  • SD card?
  • Carbon F back? I WANT!!
Con:
  • Isn't that res a bit "much"? Might destroy brightness/battery life.
  • Looks like it's going to be a phablet rather than a phone.
  • Updates?

Other than that, based on my experiences with the F5 I'd say: go for it. The F5 was about 25% cheaper than it's competitors but there was nowhere where that showed.

Great post, thanks. Nice to hear from an Oppo user.

Personally, I don't think the screen is too much yet, I'll reserve judgment until I see it. People have said it's noticeably sharper than 1080 though.

I also don't mind it being so big. I love big phone's, after a few days you don't even notice the size anymore.

I agree about it only having 4.3 though, but they are bringing an update to color OS with kitkat.

I really want this phone! Time to get saving...
