Not often discussed on here, but are there any decent roads around Lincolnshire that would make a day trip worthwhile?

From visits in my youth I remember some well-sighted (flat, no hedges) bends and those 90 deg bends that skirt farmers fields, and I know some of the roads around Cadwell Park are half-decent, or are they too busy? The Wolds should add a bit of interest from the usual flat too?

From a map, the B-roads north & south of Market Rasen and the B1225 look interesting - worth a go?

I always enjoy the drive from Market Rasen, across to Louth and then to Mablethorpe on the A157, assuming you don't get stuck behind a caravan or tourist traffic.

A15 from Lincoln to the M180 is not recommended however!

Where is your start and finish line?

A small snippet of a route I've done many times, early (~7am) Sunday morning mind to avoid any traffic but the Wragby - Louth A157 has ample passing places for a R400 and the traffic to Skegvegas often turns off at Wragby heading to Horncastle so it mainly flows nicely.

Pretty much any road in the area encompassed by the A46/A18/A158 will be fun. The best (even the unclassified ones) are to be found up on the Wolds AONB. My sister lives in Barnetby. The entire B1225 from the A158 junction to Caistor is utterly superb and has always been practically devoid of traffic whenever I have used it.

I live just outside Market Rasen and there are some great roads in the area, a favourite route of mine in the Caterham is starting at Market Rasen then onto Wragby to Bardney to woodhall Spa to Horncastle to Louth passing cadwell and then back to Market Rasen stopping off at Willingham woods, mostly b roads with little traffic, nice and twisty with plenty of sighting.

On a nice weekend there are usually a couple of hundred bikes parked at Willingham woods to take a look at.

Nope, the roads are absolutely dreadful, nothing fun about them, and erm, full of caravans and scooters. Move along, nothing to see here.

(Outside Caistor, and quite enjoying the fact that you can enjoy a truly awful car at enough pace for the road)

Haha, looks like my gut instincts were right. Nice to see some fellow Caterham owners adding approval too.

Randlemarcus, I'll be sure to report back on just how rubbish it is after a trip!

OK so I picked out a circular route similar to this but starting from the end of the M180/Humberside Airport. First taking the B1434 from Kettleby down to Market Rasen and then picking up the B1202 down through Wragby and onto Bardney. Really enjoyed the B1190 heading east through Horsington towards Horncastle and then north bearing off the A158 onto the B1225 all the way back to Caistor.

Went on a Tuesday so the whole run was pretty devoid of traffic particularly the last leg as mentioned above. Very enjoyable day out, just a bit of a slog to get to from north Leeds - I swear that M180 is twice as long as it looks on a map, goes on forever!

I travel to Skegness quite a bit and even the standard A18/A16 can be a good drive if the road is quiet. Will have to check some of the roads mentioned in this thread.

If you're from Leeds way I presume you've been out in the Dales?

This is my usual route after the initial A1 slog: https://goo.gl/maps/ByXW4

Well worth making a bigger loop via Reeth over Stang Top and stopping for a pie & pint at England's highest pub on the way back.

You could even slap in a bid for it while you're there wink - http://www.tanhillinn.com/events-and-news-archivet...

Naturally. The Dales and the North Yorks moors are my usual Sunday morning playground. Fancied trying somewhere different this time though.
