I went for the flat white because I was concerned that the metallic may not be quite white enough. Not sure that was the right decision, but I've not seen the metallic in the flesh or on photos here yet. My wife's RAV4 in the background is a sort-of Carrara white metallic, so given that it was kind of creamy it scared me off.

Two reasons for me ... I suffer from hayfever, so softtop would be a disaster ... I'd be sneezing all the way, plus the Cayman is actually stiffer and handles a tiny bit better because of that

Congratulations for this beauty !
Can somebody explain to me why the Boxster GTS is cheaper than the Cayman GTS ?
I know the Cayman developps 10 bhp more (besides, why ?) but I don't think this is the unique reason.
Yes of course it is for marketing reason but I don't understand why the Cayman should be more expensive.
I have to say I love more and more the Boxster. The only "problem" with the Cayman is the lack of sunroof, it would have been great.
Plus, the electric hood opens itself in only 9 seconds, that's cool !

X73 is a sports chassis option.
Here are the stats for PASM vs X73, both compared to standard.
PASM --vs-- Sports Chassis
Front axle height -10mm -20mm
Rear axle height -10mm -20mm
Spring rate front +12% +20%
Spring rate rear +15% +25%
Anti-roll bar front +12% +22%
Anti-roll bar rear +10% +46%
Dampers PASM 'Sport Set-up' (passive)
Note: all values compared with standard, non-PASM suspension

I went for PASM because it's a daily driver. I would have loved the sports chassis, but I do thousands of business miles a year, so had to go with the compromise.

I had the same line of thought when I ordered mine, what change my mine is seeing two cars in the flesh.
I found the white on the metallic just seemed to "pop" more. It's really bright compared to the standard white also when you have a white and metallic white cars next to other the difference is very apparent. The standard white has more of a yellow / red base and the metallic has more of a blue / grey base.
This post from Planet9 and you can really see the difference > http://www.planet-9.com/981-cayman-boxster-picture...
On a side note, I had my Porsche Experience invite arrive, so I am looking forward to this now.

They do look different, but which one is the metallic?
On the first picture, its the one furthest away and on the second picture is the closest one. As you can see from what I was saying earlier, the white car seems to have a lot more yellow / red in the base and the metallic seems to have blue / grey base when side by side. However, that said the colour choice of the car is a very personal thing. I have been toying with changing it completely to a Yellow but not sure yet but I do have a while before my finial choice is due.
Ref White versus white metallic: I'm now not worried ... looked at mine (flat white) versus many other white cars from multiple manufacturers in the company car park and it was the whitest (is that a word? It was the most white) .. good enough for me.
As for the car: awesome In sports mode the PDK is incredible and the exhaust sound makes everyone smile. In Sports plus mode it is absolutely insane ... not for driving on your average road as you would end up rear-ending other cars and deafening everyone. Makes my gen 1 Cayman S feel like a snail. I love this car and I am just trying to run it in carefully. Can't stop grinning from ear to ear.
To get the pops and crackles from the exhaust you really need to be in manual mode, however I will keep that to a minimum until I get to about 3000 miles.
If you want a quiet motorway cruiser, please don't choose this car ... it'll never be that

What a horrible old steering wheel? Don't think it is available for normal customers, isn't it?

That's the multifunction leather steering wheel. It is an uggo. That's why we're seeing the 918 Spyder wheel being rolled out in model refreshes and in the Macan -- it's a multifunction wheel AND it's pretty.

We collected ours yesterday and I'm really pleased I spec'ed Carmine red. There was a Guards red Cayman with the black painted wheels at the dealer so it gave a great comparison. It was sad to see the 987 R go off to a new home this morning but I got some photo's of it alongside it's replacement last night.
