I think the Cayman and Boxster GTS models are great cars for the cost. What are people going for Manual or PDK?

here is my gts - had it two weeks and loving it. Running SS, PDK, Black exterior pack and partially black alloys to contrast the sapphire blue smile - running in period cant come quick enough

Don't baby the car in the first 2K, just ensure it's up to temperature (>80C) before you drive it hard and allow it time to cool before shutting down. I did this and used all of the rev range from about 500 miles, driving harder and harder until I was using full throttle above 6K by about 1000 miles.

I haven't used any oil in 3.5k miles, which is a good indicator that my pistons are well sealed, given how oil thirsty these cars can be in my experience.

I collect mine tomorrow! spec listed below;

Last week I drove a manual PASM car without PTV at PEC Silverstone, car felt superb in very wet conditions. The balance was spot on and it was nice to be able to use all the power in 2nd & 3rd in the wet which coming from the GT2 was something very different. Pics to follow...

Dear All, after been lurking for a while I decided to register, so this is my first post. Pistonheads is a great site and I am sure I will enjoy participating to the forums.

I am considering to buy a new car, perhaps the Cayman GTS and it would be great to get some advices. Apologies in advance as I am sure some points have been already covered but cannot remember every single post on this thread, therefore...I have a few questions for you guys:

1. Standard interior vs GTS interior pack - I know what the GTS packs includes, but I am not sure about what is standard. I understand it is sport seats in leather/Alcantara, steering wheel and gear lever in alcantara, dashboard and door trims in leather, no GTS logo on headrest, no contrast stitches. I am right? If yes, is there any option wher I can have standard interior and add separately just contrast stitches and GTS logo? Car configurator is not that clear to me and salesperson I have recently met was not sure....

2. PTV yes or no? This is going to be a daily drive for my wife (just 10m/day from home to rail station) and a week end car for me (spirited drive on B roads cross country and no more than a couple track days/year) plus occasional European touring. IMHO PTV is not needed but would like your opinion

3. Colour combo. This is obviously very personal but don't mind other views. I am considering:
Agate grey/black wheels
Agate grey/satin wheels
Rhodium silver/satin wheels
Black/satin wheels
Black/black wheels

4. Discount...is it realistic at this stage? I know this is quiet controversial but never say never, some saving makes always people feeling good

Well, for now that is all, to be more precise in terms of background consider that my other choices at the moment are F-Type S coupe' and 997 GTS, that my daily drive is a BMW123d and the one to be replaced is an old MX5. Over the years thanks to a supercar club membership I have had the pleasure of driving several GT/supercars and now I have decided that maybe is time to get my own sport car.

Thanks in advance

I opted for standard interior, having taken delivery (in the uk) this comes with the GTS badge in the headrest. Personally having tried PTV unless you are planning to track your car on the UK road I wouldn't bother. Please opt for the sports suspension, it's so good in so many ways and changes the profile of the car so much it really stands out lower. Depending on your colour choice (which is personal) if you do opt for a black wheel contrast please tick the box for the exterior pack it honestly IMO makes the car really stand out and marry up with the wheels. Happy shopping.

Discount should be £2k. Shop around if you need to. (One PHer managed £3k, me £2k).

I ended up without the GTS on the headrests given that the interior GTS pack stopped me choosing another item that I wanted more (sorry I cannot remember now as I specced mine 18 weeks ago). I ended up with full leather so specced the GTS badge on the centre arm rest. Agree PTV not necessary unless you are tracking. SS looks excellent and provides a more analogue feel HOWEVER if it might be a shared drive the adaptive suspension might be a better choice. Sadly, you will need to spend some time with the Porsche configurator, I have not yet met a salesman who can offer you any better advice than try and it out and the configurator and see the result. The OPC cannot offer anything the configurator can't.

My salesman challenged whether I was right after I had spent many hours on the configurator finalising my choices as the configurator would not allow me to do EXACTLY what I wanted in one area. He knew less about the configurator than I did. (Shows how long I had to spend on it.)

Anxious times getting the spec right but fun too. The only two items I really got stuck on were the colour, and the suspension. Finally went for racing yellow, and the sports suspension (the salesman sent me pitures of a racing yellow porsche and I spoke to the EVO guy who test drove the GTS in Majorca on sports suspension to best ensure the ride was not too harsh. We used the Aston Vantage v12v as the comparison as we had both driven one.

Fun times!

Hi Diabolik,
yes I'd spent so much time on the on line config and having a look at a demo car (Silverstone) that once in the dealer I've agreed the comfig in 1 hrs or so.

Mine is SS, bucket seats, sat nav, PDK, GTS int's pack (love contrasting red and additional leather trim)

I would not suggest glossy black exteriors, I believe stone chips are likely to be more evidents.

Regarding PTV:

I have owned a 987.1 Boxster S, 987.1 Cayman S, 987.2 Cayman S and now Cayman GTS. None of the first three cars had LSDs. I choose to put PTV on my car as I wanted the diff more than the T.V. element. Now, I know that some argue that Porsche's standard locking diff is weak and not up to aftermarket standards, but I can definitely feel the benefit of having it on the car. I also don't agree that it's a track only option, as I feel it working most at lower speeds, and especially in the wet. At higher speeds it gives the car some flexibility to move at the rear where you'd typically back off or have a PSM intervention on a non-lsd car.

Re PTV. I bow to your experience and kick myself for parroting general rhetoric. I have selected this option so am pleased to get your real life feedback (as you have from the car ;-)

All helps with this gentleman's original enquiry.

Might actually get mine this week :-)

Had a bit of a play with the menus today and have a couple of questions for others who may have similar configurations.

1) Activating and deactivating rain sensor – Under vehicle/settings/light and visibility I do not have a menu for Wiper and then rain sensor to switch it on or off.
2) Automatic lower of the mirror when reversing - Under vehicle/settings/light and visibility I do not have the revers opt
3) Converting headlights for left/right hand - Under vehicle/settings/light and visibility/exterior lights I do not have a setting to change.

I know there a lots of options but I do have automatically dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensor function, the electric folding mirrors, PDLS lighting.

And finally, some 6 weeks late, she is ready for me to collect this Saturday (would go earlier but the sea is in the way!).

SS and GTS pack outside.

Somewhat excited!

Congrats - might pop my head in down @ Reading to have a look.
There was a nice Carmine Red B-GTS under wraps awaiting collection a couple of weeks ago.

Hopefully mine will show up soon! Else I might lose patience.
