Hello,

thanks to the many gentlemans that have helped so far. I have had a play with the car configurator, boring but, as some of you said, rather useful.

My ideal spec for now:

Agate grey
Satin wheels
GTS interior pack
Seat heating
Folding mirros
Parking sensors front and rear
SS
PCM plus sound plus
Preparation for mobile phone

re PTV thanks for the useful suggestions, I suspect if I go for the cayman will leave this option open until I try one at the PEC

will do a test drive in a couple of weeks at my local dealer, then try also the F-Type coupè (more expensive, can't really see my wife driving it daily to the station, actually she is just in love with the cayman and dislikes the jag but I found the big cat absolutely stunning in the look dept, especially in BRG). Then will also have a look at 997 GTS and...try to make a decision.

Thanks a lot and please feel free to add any other comments, also in relation to my other options.

Great forum and happy driving!

I drove the F-Type on the same day as a Boxster S. Have to say I prefer the F-Type look a bit more than the Cayman or Boxster, but it felt heavy in comparison, and the Boxster handling just felt a cut above. I am no expert driver, but the Boxster felt like a big go-kart that you could put where you wanted, and feel the car moving with you, and the F-Type, as good as it undoubtedly is, seemed a tad inert in comparison. A bit more like a good GT to the Boxster's sports car?

Many thanks cibble10. I haven't driven the F-type yet, however I definitely expect it to be heavier and more GTish that the Cayman which I have driven in S form and found simply perfect. In the December issue EVO compares the two cars and Cayman annhilates the Jag in nearly every area.
On the other side I have driven just once the 997 GTS and honestly IMHO it doesn't feel more special than a nicely specced carrera S, certainly not as special as a turbo or a GT3....but I love the widebody and the two extra seats compared to the Cayman.

Well, I will take my time.

I owned a 997 Carrera GTS for 3.5 years from new - I decided to change from it to a Cayman GTS - which i'm still waiting for!
Basically the Cayman delivers what I want from a driving experience more of the time - the 997GTS was brilliant - my first Porsche and I will always love it because it was my first.
The main thing it has going for it is the status, being a 911, and the top end power with 408hp. Mine had Alcantara and extended leather and was a lovely place to be - if felt special to be in and the drive was wonderful to - but the 981 Cayman impressed me much more - I could go harder and get more feedback more immediately - with the 997GTS you have to be going a lot quicker in order to access the real specialness and that is license losing.
With the Cayman you can feel the lightness and the playfulness more directly.
When I tried the Cayman - i just thought if I could just spec these car dynamics with the same interior as the 997 GTS I'd be happy. The Cayman GTS is that car.
Its just down to advancements in technology, 997 introduced in 2005, is a revision of the 996 platform which was introduced in when..1999? The 981 platform was all new in 2012.

As TDT says, accessible. I sold my Aston Martin V12 Vantage to buy the Boxster GTS. The V12 was awesome and will always be my most iconic car, and the best looking. But the GTS will give me day to day readily accessible fun!

I had an F-Type V8s and now have a Cayman GTS on order. I agree with the previous comments. The F is a great GT car and very quick. But I felt detached from the car. I currently have a Cayman S ('till my GTS arrives) and its so much more a drivers car. (Have I said "car" enough times!)

I have a question. There appears to be many posts about delays in getting delivery of new CGTS's. Is this indicative of a problem or are these isolated incident's?

I ordered my GTS on 18th September and I have a build completion date of 14th of November. Checked with the Salesman 2 days ago and there is no date change.

Mine should have been a 11 week wait, it has been 17 weeks. I collect my Boxster GTS this Saturday. Mine is not the only one from the same OPC that has been delayed. I have ordered new cars before but they have historically been on time to within a few days. I hope your 2 month wait is realistic Tonto. Maybe a different OPC helps....

This is the exact reason why I'm cancelling my GTS order. I want a PTS car delivered for the new reg in March. The PTS order book doesn't open again until Feb so was advised that the additional 12 week wait for PTS would mean an Apr/May delivery. Throw in another 5-6 week delay like above and I'm in to Summer 2015. OPC's are currently selling GTS' at circa £66k, how much will they be available for next summer? They'll be delivering me a £72k car that would be iimmediately superceded by the GT4.

So I'm going to order one of them instead!

Thanks TDT, your post is very useful as well as your thread on the 997GTS vs Cayman GTS I have now managed to read. Will take time to make my mind, I really like both cars and a proper test drive in Cayman GTS will help. My experience with 911 is relatively limited (have driven only a few times 997 turbo,997 GTS, 997C2S and 997.1 GT3) however it is enough to make me loving the car, making hard to pick another one instaed.

@cibble10 - you have sold a Vantage V12, mad! biggrin it is one of my dream cars, if only I could afford to buy a new one speccing it as I like, would keep it as a third car for ever....

@Sarnie - what does PTS stand forconfused

thanks

The GT4 promises to be a much more 'complete' car anyway.

Think you will find PTS stands for Paint to Sample.

I had a GTS for the day yesterday, thoroughly enjoyed the car, needs X73 for me though.

The GT4 isn't a GTS same as a GTS isn't an S and visa versa. I have a LI for A GT4 but until I see the exact details of the car I don't know if I will or will not order one. Even if it doesn't suit me I'm sure it will be a cracker for those it does.

As is said many many times its entirety subjective. IMO.....

I've just put down a deposit on the demo GTS that my OPC is running. Ticks all the boxes for me.

Also have a LOI in for a Cayman GT4 but I'm 5th on the list so might not even get an opportunity to order one depending on ow many they make.

I picked up my CGTS today. I opted for sports suspension (X73) without having tried it, and was a bit concerned that it might give too harsh a ride. For those considering it, I just wanted to say that it gives a great ride in my opinion - not harsh in a "sports" car sense. I've been in a lot firmer, bouncier cars, to the point that you'd think mine had the conventional suspension. The ride on PASM in normal mode must be very smooth. Also, the steering has a good weight to it as well. It does not feel electronic to me, but then I don't have experience of the conventional, hydraulic version for comparison.
