I never saw the first series but read the info and expected them to be driving round the roads of an area of Italy I have been to. Instead it was just 2 dheads sat in a restaurant talking st.
That must have been quite a disappointment for you.
It might have been if I had bothered to pay the licence fee.

I really enjoyed the first episode - but does anybody else here also wish that they'd make it clear whereabouts in Italy the various locations are?

[Or did I just miss those details?]

Really enjoyed that episode, was great fun and I like that they are driving around in a Cooper S Convertible. Looking forward to the next episode.

+1.
Disappointment in well known comedy show not actually being a motoring show is amusing.

Loved the first series....this episode was a total disappointment , the whole batman scene was cringeworthingly bad, and the two of them trying to emulate the scene in the Lake District. series when they were trying to out Caine each other was eggy to say the least. I hope it gets better although I really doubt it will.

Have to agree, in fact I was quite surprised they were doing the same impressions again.

I loved the first series, and was really looking forward to this one - and on the whole was pleased.
My only concern was that some of the things that made S1 funny were lacking - namely that previously Steve only brought Rob along because he was desperate, and spent the whole time trying to out-do him on everything, and at times was visibly agitated by him. The fact that Rob just stared at him like a confused puppy whenever Steve snapped at him was so funny. In this series they seem much happier being together, less competitive, like they have grown to be friends - although S1 ended with Steve driving off back to his lonely life, and we hear being unaware of Rob's final reviews. Its also implied that they havent been in contact much since the last trip.

Series 1 also had that brilliant contrast about the nature of fame/money vs happiness, popularity vs critical acclaim, which they both represented - brought into stark relief by Steve banging various floozies and then crying himself to sleep afterwards, and Rob's hilarious phone-sex chats with his homely wife. I really hope series 2 develops a similar undercurrent to offset the funny banter over the meals.

As for the impressions, im happy if they just do the same ones again, same as they did in every episode of S1! I thought Christian Bale voice was quite good, but the Bane impression was awful from both of them (my mate does a better one) though the entire routine itself was very funny. Really looking forward to episode 2!

Edit: not that ive thought about it too much...

The restaurant was names at the beginning and in the credits, although you had to be quick to catch it (quicker than me!).

I really really enjoyed that one smile

I bought the dvd of the first series set in the North of England and in the case was a map with the restaurants they stopped at. They also had an extra bit of the chefs preparing the food and what Rob and Steve ate at each restaurant. They may well do the same if this series comes out on dvd.

Huge title at start of programme, right across my TV screen said San Fruttuoso. It's in Liguria, between Genoa and Rapallo.

The small port they sailed out of is Camogli, just south of Genova before the Portofino peninsula.

The coastal scenery looked very similar to what I saw on Italy prog with Andrew Graham Dixon and

Georgio Locatelli.

Lovely scenery last night......nerd
