Just read an article posted on Eurodragster on the 11th March entitled "UKTA offer the Yorkshire Mile". Looks interesting...

Has everyone lost their bottle or what? No one up for a well organised standing mile? The website hints at equivalent events at other locations around the country.

I'm wondering about what it'll take to run 300mph in the mile. 706cu, gigantic turbos and some methanol would be a start.

If I still had my old bike I'd be all over this like a rash as well over 200 would be easy. The vxr8... 160/170 I suppose so hardly exciting.

If RV3 managed 220 in the quarter it would have 3.1 sec to hit 300 in the mile.
That's a very interesting questionsmile
I'm guessing 4-5000 hp

They also need to publish their dates where they can be easily found. Isn't this just Straightliners by a different name?

Take a top fuel car, tootle along for 3/4 mile then put the foot down lol

The problem for a very powerful car isnt so much achieving the speed, it's having the aero and stability to actually run flat out for the distance.

Technically there are drag vehicles that could achieve it, like Top fuel and funny cars, but they would never be able to hold full throttle for 1 mile.

Of course the above also assumes they could obtain enough traction to do it with any degree of safety.

Airfields arent made of glue, which makes a huge difference.

The article on Eurodragster states they take road cars, though the focus does appear to be bikes. There's a rule book. I'll try to get my hands on it.

The trouble with dragsters is that they are geared for the quarter. Longer legs slows the quarter, but improves your top speed over the mile. I'm guessing a longer geared ex-top fuel dragster with a more robust (if lower powered) engine and gearbox could do 300mph.

The cars not been built yet, think that's just a display model, perf figures have been pulled from someone's dream list. There's been quite a lot of discussion about it iirc.
It'll prob never happen sadly.
