Another R129, the interior isn't really for me but I'm sure will like it.

What isn't to like at this sort of money? Ambers? Check. Hedgerow? Check.

Looks good for £3.5k certainly.

I actually like the interior - different than most SL schemes. Partial history may be a minus but at this money it's a lot of car and worth a punt.

I actually really like that! I can see why the interior wouldn't be to everyone's taste but when you look at the trouble they've gone to to make it that colour? There can't have been too many with that colour? And yet all the carpets, door trims, screen surrounds, sun-visors, centre console etc had to be made to that colour. Amazing.

And y'know...realistically, at 23 years old, if it's driving well now and then one gets a full service done upon buying it, does it really matter that it hasn't got a "Full Service History" as long as the mileage can be substantiated by other means?

Agree! That has got to be worth a serious look.

Phone code looks like not completely a million miles from me...suggests possible Ludlow or South Shropshire/ Worcestershire border?

Wheels need refurbing, scrape on rear bumper, crazed rear lense covers, milky chrome window trims, creaky suspension, parking sensor, very slight blow on exhaust which I actually quite like, carpets starting to show their age, broken catch on tool kit etc, but it still feels like it will go on for ever.

I'm sold! How much do you want for it?

I think the colours are superb: looks like 040 black over medium brown, what in the USA is called Palomino and there was almost the default colour choice. It is very "of the period", ideal for a young classic. The spec is good, too, with double airbags, automatic air con and heated seats as well as some other bits and bobs which I can't make out in the pictures. It's £3,500 for Chrissakes! LOCFTM.

Ah! That's interesting regarding the colour of the leather and it being popular in the USA. BMW did a similar thing with some of their cars around the same time. For example, you'll see U.S spec E30 M3s with similar brown leather that you's never see in a Euro spec car. Must have been a very American preference?

So basically, the only things that really need attending to are the suspension and the exhaust? Hardly seems terminal!

Try some ultra fine wire wool and some metal polish on the chrome trim.

It's not for sale, but if someone was to wave about three grand under my nose, I'd probably part with it and have a go at something else. The sun keeps coming out so I'd just use my TVR as a daily until the next barge came along. smile
As you'll see from my Readers Rides thread, a local PHer has been asking me to sell it to him for over a year!

Those aren't faults, they are merely character !hehe

As for the LS400 ever beng a "Classic", IMO it wont ever happen. It doesnt have the image needed, and it's a bit too competent and boring.

Looks respectable: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

A very rare BMW 4.4 V8 auto with a full extensive service history with invoices; last serviced 21.02.2014 at BMW (inspection 2 - new all round discs and pads, filters and plugs). Gear box service (12.2013), rocker cover gasket and seals, tensioners done in the last 6 months. Water pump and thermostat have been changed. 9 service stamps in the book as follows: 12k, 29k, 40k, 47k, 60k, 65k, 73k, 88k, 90k; 6 BMW main dealer and 3 specialists. Mechanically sound! 3 owners. £1600 spent in the last 5 months. MOT 10.14 with all previous MOT certificates.
£3,850 for a late sub 100k miles 540 Sport with seemingly decent history and recent jobs attended to seems fair value.

That looks superb. E39's, whilst they've dated, still look so "right", don't they. At dusk, with angel eyes on they look absolutely menacing.

I know I'm only talking from a fastidious perspective and most of what I've listed would be considered reasonable for a car of its age by most. The milky 'chrome' is actually plastic.

I think it will be a classic - for this reason...

Brlliant! I always felt a bit bad about trashing the car though, geek that I am....

That SL looks superb. If I didn't have one, I'd be booking flights.
