Thank God I'm tied up at the moment!
Something you want to share?;) Bit of a deviation from all these r129s.

On that note, I'm enjoying the x308 but feel the need to get back to Mercedes, ideally a r129 500 or a w140 again in 500 form.

It is highly unlikely that it would be that bad.

Nice 560 SEL here. I tell you what I like about the ad: "Aircon present and requires replacement compressor, cooler and re-gas". They all need that, yet most sellers only mention the gas.

Could esteemed members point me in the direction of S124s please? I'm in the market for one in the next few weeks and feel I've explored all of the Bay, AT and Car and Classic.

Looks far worse than the leather on my E65 in similar miles, and my 728i was sold with around 140k miles and didn't look any worse.

Doesn't seem to be too many around. MTSV had a 300d, and I think W124.co.uk had a similar one too, but top money. What's the budget- top or bottom of thread?

This is truthfully stretching the terms of under 5K for a half decent workable example (by about 1.5K+) but I think the L322 Range Rover is now viable in V8 or even LPG conversions which seem to carry a discount. It's not that worried by high mileage as it sort of pushes them into working or not on the transfer and gearbox front and the suspension and electrics.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

Having spent far too long researching it the airbags cost about £300 front each side and £150 rear, plus £300 for the compressor. Plus £1-£2.5k when the gearbox or transfer goes wrong and some money on fuel.

But overall the l322 Range Rover is something special and I think it deserves a thought if not a place in the 1-5K barges thread.

Budget is squarely in the middle of Thread at £2500-ish.

was going to suggest this one for you, it's a UK car that belongs to an architect in Dublin. Very straightforward to repatriate. Seems a straight guy, and he has it maintained by a good indy. I nearly bought it last june, but he wouldn't negotiate on price at the time and my car came up on ebay....

It's a 1.8 though, slower than asphalt itself.

I find the leather in most cars to be pretty poor quality tbh, I'd rather have cloth than most of the standard leather.

Only car I've had that had nice leather seats was my E34 M5, it had Nappa leather and it was absolutely fantastic, looked and felt amazing.

Most of the old Mercs that get posted here don't really do anything for me but I do appreciate some of the old colourful interiors with checked cloth like that blue one posted earlier, shame we don't really get interiors like that any more.

Oooh I like that, even in racing gold.
Decent miles and ex-Jordanian princess as opposed to Jordan the 'celebrity'.
Shame they've used 70's shag pile bathmats in the back though...

I was looking at L322's earlier in the year (bought a 928 instead), a definite itch that needs scratching, I think I have an affliction that requires I buy cars with the most ruinous reputations biggrin Almost tempted to see if matey in that ad will take the S430 in px and kill 2 birds with one stone.

That looks rather nice - cheap as well. The 560 will go down as a proper classic I think.

So tidy looking and basic though - that feeling that it will outlast any new car and anything produced for the next decade must be satisfying!

My CEO just texted saying he's about to buy an old e28 520 as a daily driver as he likes the approach of running old German cars. Replied with disclaimers about the e28 - rust electronics etc for self protection.

The borkutation of the L322 is largely inherited. The P38 is a vehicle which only the most foolhardy bargist would contemplate, and even those brave enough would be reduced to a quivering tearful shadow of their former selves in mere months. The L322 by contrast is largely a Teutonic construct with many of the same traits as their German cousins. They're not perfect of course, and some parts can be expensive, but there are a good network of specialist who can address the main issues at reasonable cost. We've run two now - albeit at some multiple of thread budget - largely without issue.

There are some great upcoming opportunities for barge congregation

Next Tuesday evening 22nd July, is the PH South East gathering at Redhill Aerodrome - sign up at this thread

For Mercedes-Benz Club members, August 31st is the club's annual W124 day to be held at the Haynes Motor Museum.

I'm going to try and make it to both, speak-up if you're going too, it's great to meet bargists in the wild!
It shouldn't need saying, but just in case:

If anyone does encounter a bargist in the wild, be sure to approach from the side avoiding eye-contact and loud noises, and definitely avoiding any mention of timing belts, sills and the MOT, lest you frighten the beast.
I'll be there on Tuesday - rude not to when I live so close! I may not be in the barge having just spent many times thread budget on an S5 Sportback 3 litre supercharged which may get an outing instead smile
I'll look out for you Adrian - that sounds like a beast! I never seem to end up taking the barge and probably won't this time unless it's raining cats and dogs because the run out in the SL is so tempting. I went to the old venue once in the 124 and I think it was assumed I'd parked in the wrong carpark boxedin I live in hope that one day they're be a proper posse from the thread and on that day I'll barge in with pride though...
