Any recommendations for decent aircon places near Farnborough?
Sorry it's not closer, but I can recommend vehvac in Edenbridge who got my S124 aircon going again.
Do you know fleet ponds?

Opposite There is a road called sankey lane that always has a big sign out the front saying about aircon. Not used them personally but if they are connected to TGM (the honda place down the same road) then they are fantastic and I can't recommend them highly enough. Worth a call maybe

Looks lovely in those colours too, a great spot!
You're the guy I need here!

1999 (older shape) V70 2.5 turbo automatic estate, 90k, very good condition. Good buy or not?

Is the lack of leather that kills it for me. Otherwise it's just an LS400 if you squint.
Wouldn't mind if it was velour but looks like same stuff on boggo corolla

Consensus is that the 6-pot 190E is a bit of a heavy lump to have at the front and the 4-pot is better suited to the chassis. So the correct answer is a 2.5-16V (with auto for barginess).

The beryl blue 2.6 190E (on Ebay and posted here a few weeks ago) is a far better specced car at that figure (AC and the full AMG kit). I nearly bought it about 4 years ago, but couldn't quite live with the colour.
2.6 may be nose heavy but it still well thought of handling wise, and performance wise it steps on toes of 2.3-16v and will nail the 2.0
Beryl blue is a rarre and awesome colour-it's so good you pick the colour first and the choice Merc later

Many thanks you two. Edenbridge a bit far, but I'll certainly try and find the Sankey Lane place, and google tells me there's an MB specialist and aircon chap in North Camp, so I'll call them tomorrow as well.

An MB specialist rather than A/C but TM motors in west molesey are very good, they will be able to do the a/c I'm sure.

On the whole, a resounding YES!

The 2.5T is an utterly unburtsable engine, full of character too.

Im not sure what g'box they were using back then... itll definitely be old school and probably blunt performance, but im 99% certain it was before the dark days of the early Aisin-Warner boxes, so you should be fine.

I always check PCV systems and the ETM on old Volvos; so once its warm, remove the oil dipstick and see if it chugs smoke out of it, and it should idle smoothly without hunting.

Normal caveats apply as with any old car, and if paying any more than £1500 it needs to be really special or super low miles.
Thankyou, I'm going for a nose in a minute!

Agreed, I test drove both previously and bought the 2.6. I found it much better suited to the auto, sounded better and mpg (I read) isn't much different.

IMO, I doubt many 190e would be driven in such a way that weight balance comes into play, excepting maybe a 16v

I was surprised how much I liked the Volvo! The seats were unbelievably comfy, it felt very solid and the engine made a very pleasant warble. A few niggles to sort, cambelts due and a full service/clean-up is needed but should make a great station car/runaround.

190s have a FX4-like turning circle. And are narrow enough to fit anywhere.

Way over budget, (but it is an AUC approved used) very low miles E39 530i Sport for the connoisseur .....

You do need to really love an E39 at £7850 and marks deducted for the rear ///M badge, but looks lovely

I had an E28 520i exactly like that once. They look great in that colour. 520i or not, I shouldn't think that one will be around for sale for too long!

Slightly at a tangent to topic...

We were talking a few pages back about R129 values. Plagued by my usual insomnia, I came up with the idea of trying to find the most expensive R129 and R107 and Pagoda that I could find.

I think I've found them all in the one place: http://www.howardwisecars.co.uk/

R129 at £45,000 : http://www.howardwisecars.co.uk/index.php/car-deta...

R107 at £86,000: http://www.howardwisecars.co.uk/index.php/classic/...

Pagoda at £140,000: http://www.howardwisecars.co.uk/index.php/classic/...

And yet somehow it just doesn't have the appeal of a £4k early 300SL.
