Want!

Surely that could be had for £3.5k?
I'm looking for something to lug around a few mountain bikes- that looks ideal. Few miles per year so dont care its a petrol.

Anyone on here got one of these?
They spent so much money on repairs they now cannot afford the monthly broadband package to reply to your query biggrin

Only joking! I always fancied one after I had the classic 3.5 RR but never had the bottle to go through with it. If your going old I think its best to stick with the classic shape RR as they are much easier/cheaper to maintain or go for the L322 model as they are getting to the 5k mark for a V8 model.
I've got one, its marvellous. Other than an irritating sqeak from one of the brake pads (hopefully), it hasnt caused any bother whatsoever. If you can find one that doesn't bong when you start it up warning of electical doom, and it changes gear properly then you would be on a good footing. If you can get hold of one with the facelift lights they still look fairly modern too.

Mine is the 4.0, floats along very nicely and smoothly and is obviously very thirsty, which is as much as you would expect for a 2 tonne slab of a car. Not sure I would fancy the diesel though.

Have spent much of the morning wondering what to replace the 9-5 aero with.
I’d like an estate this time and for a more interactive driving experience than the Saab. I think I’ll have about £5k or so to spend. I’m not sure if I need the performance of the 9-5 aero but it is nice to have…
So far I have thought about:
BMW E61/91
Volvo V50/70 T5
Another 9-5 aero but in estate form as it’s not been a bad car
And out of left field a mk2 Skoda Octavia VRS estate.
Am I missing any options?
The V70 T5 is probably closest in style / ethos to the Saab. I've had one since my 9-5 and liked it, great engine and carried all sorts in the back including a double bed.

This looks good...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-MERCEDES-BENZ-E-CLA...

And looks to be quite rust free, plus a V8.

I had the 320Cdi version of this and I absolutely loved it - I miss it all the time for comfort and waft (with economy!) and that insane acreage of loadspace.

Tempted by this, despite not needing it in the slightest.

Just scrolled through all the HD images on the dealer's website, and all was beautiful, until the LAST one... where the deadly tin worm's work is visible all through the arch and door bottom.

I fear the V70 will be similalrly numb though.

I'm intrigued by the Legacy but there aren't any Mercedes that interest (as a daily driver)at this price point.

I pick this up on Monday, I've had a look over it and it looks to be in good nick but you never can tell properly until you get it home for a thorough clean! Fingers crossed.

Good luck, hope it goes well. Keep us posted.
Same to you! Seems I might need it after the above post! Ha!
Bonded by the fear of rust lol.
Just picked it up. Rust isn't as bad as I remember. one front wing has 2 very small patches and thats about it! Not a scratch or ding in ANY panel though. Erm service indicator says B service in 4000miles though, Doh..... forgot to check!

Pics when I've given it a clean!

p.s. The noise.... THE NOISE!!!!

Congratulations, that's good news. It will be very interesting to hear more about how you think of it

Thanks Iain, yes it looks a great deal of car for the money. I've read up on the autoboxes, and apparently they get through brakes and tyres quite quickly, but i only plan on doing 2-3k miles a year on it so not really a problem. If its still for sale after i get back from a work trip it might well be another thread purchase.

I'm a bit out the bargain loop this week but this is in danger of going ridiculously cheap. Must be one of the very first, don't see many SL500 r129s on a G plate.

Of course one of us would have it fixed in an hour for a few quid ;-)
