Having to tax my bangers of the future will be a drag.
I initially thought this but most of the banger stuff I buy is on the old regime anyway so max £150'ish or less for 6 months which is often as long as I keep them. So not too bad.

I still really like it.

But not enough to buy it.

In other news, I have had the driver's seats in my 129 and 124 fitted with new pads. What a difference! The cost in each case was pretty small. For the 129 it was £180 for a new base plus £30 fitting (the heating element had bust, so it was essential before winter); and for the 124 it was £80 for the base and £70 for fitting (a more involved job). Both seats had more than 200,000miles on them. There is no obvious reason why the 129 part is so much more expensive since sit is essentially the same, just a different shape. Both seats feel more even, fuller, rounder, less flat than they did previously. I did all the foam blocks in them as well. The costs were offset by the £8-odd and 4euros I found under the 129 seats.

MOT is to September 2015 and tax to July 2015. A very beautiful example of this iconic V8 motor car...

I keep coming back to this.

So I googled the registration mark. And found this: http://www.ukvehicle.com/J331OPK/ This is a new site to me but isn't that interesting: not much of a margin in it but a turn all the same. Why do I find this off putting?

Tax to July 2015?

I thought it was no longer transferable after Oct 1?

Can you please post or email me links? Very keen to do the drivers seats in my two as well!!

Hello everyone, long time watcher of this thread but 1st time poster.

Its time for someone else to enjoy my lovely car, but I'm struggling to get a good idea of it's value.

Its a well looked after 2003 XJ6 (X350) with 47k and FJSH - there aren't many similar examples on the market it seems, mainly cars with much higher mileages. It is BRG with sand leather & walnut interior if that makes any difference. The chap at the MoT station was really admiring it but even he couldn't give a decent estimate on what it was worth.

Any ideas?
The values seem to depend on the options it has, as well as servicing, mileage etc. If it's got nav, xenons, the alpine stereo and rear entertainment system I'd say £6k, maybe even a little more if it's got decent wheels spec'd.

I've seen pre facelift X350s go for as low as £3k and as much as £12k - I paid £4.5k for mine around a year and a half ago with much higher mileage, but with a desirable colour combo and options, and I've been offered more than what I paid several times since.
Tell us more about it; is it an SE, Sport, Sovereign? A few pics would be good too wink
Thanks Geekman and Texasjohn for the feedback, it would seem that there are many variables...

here are some pictures of the car:

Is there an issue with this car now?

Only the thought of someone earning some money out of it from what I can gather. Doesn't make it any less appealing if it's as nice as the photos and description suggest.

It is all spec and year dependent. The variations on the 124 are fairly wide: pre-/post-1990; normal/sportline; cloth/velours/tex/leather; heated/non-heated; orthopaedic/normal. Less so on the 129: early/late; heated/non-heated; orthopaedic/normal. If you let me know your spec I'll do my best to look up part numbers.

I didn't think it was a DIY unless you're very handy and dextrous. Removing the cushions on the 129 is dead easy (two 10mm bolts under the leading edge; yank the front of the cushion; unplug the heated seat loom), and cleaning the cushion on the bench makes for a much better job, such that I'd recommend it once in a while. The 124 seat on the other hand has to be removed from the car and then split. On both cars, the difficulty is getting the leather cover off the pad. That looked to me like a job for an expert. I could see how it was done but I think you'd need tools and experience and you'd risk mis-shaping the cover.

Many thanks, my 129 seat would be the same as yours, with the 124 being a leather electric heated seat for a facelift model (1995). I wouldn't attempt it myself, I know a trimmer who would do it, and he is friends with the guy that owns Dynamix dyes.
Hopefully I'd have a minty fresh interior when they do their stuff....

For the 129 (non-orthopaedic, leather, heated, facelift) the seat pad is A1299102550. I note Inchcape have put their prices up since I ordered mine on 1st Sept. I paid £182.52 inc but I see they're now asking £204.12 http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/index.php?opt... Interestingly my dealer said he could not match Inchcape's prices even if he sold it to me at cost.

I also ordered the foam reinforcement that fixes to the frame with its self-adhesive backing, it provides support at the back of the seat base, £5.94 inc http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/index.php?opt...

On the 124, leather, electric, heated, sportline seat takes pad A1249104050 which is £85.32 http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/index.php?opt...

A leather, electric, heated, non-sportline seat takes pad A1249102350 which is £75.06 http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/index.php?opt...

I also ordered a pair of reinforcing foam blocks for the 124, A1249101675 £6.05 each (but note these are wrongly priced and should be £24 each) http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/index.php?opt...

I think this is all correct...

Looks in lovely condition, although can't see any xenons and it also has the most basic wheels. I'd say you'd comfortably get £5k, but I can't see it fetching a huge amount more than that.

Thanks again, sounds about right. I've had a px offer yesterday of £4400 so anything I can get above that would be great.

I was just looking at that. I do like these 560s, and of all the 80s/90s merc 4 door barges it must be the one that is most likely to start appreciating if you put some work into it (man maths justification)...?

I bought a car yesterday, and collected it today. This one:

There are a couple of little things I'll get seen to in due course, but for now I'm enjoying the rather nice sound of 8 cylinders.

The other sound I may have to get used to is the howl of rage when Madame deG returns tomorrow to find it on the drive. I suspect she may take the, wholly unreasonable, view that these things are to be discussed before being bought pretty much on a whim, leaving us with a total now of 2 124s and a 129.

The plan - insofar as there is one - is to run the SL and the 124 Cabrio for a while, then make a decision about which one has to go; I already know it's not going to be easy (first world problems, and all that).
Congratulations CdeG!
I'm pleased to be catching up on thread news after a couple of days and finding this. There's a guy in the Mercedes club I know who's been grappling with the same dilemma you're facing for years. I think he now has 124 cab and coupe and 2 x 129... Enjoy deciding - hope to see the new one soon!
